Wired has officially hit rock bottom by taking on the direct competition's castoffs...which would make sense cause didn't the management at Wired attempt to take WDAS's Tom Joyner and put him on a new station (just before that management got the boot and jumped to Wired)? And from what I recently read, the "can't miss" of Joyner actually has swung and missed...after one trend Steve Harvey is beating Joyner?

How valuable was Chio's "market equity" if Q had the opportunity, AND PASSED ON IT, to simply slide him back into the VACANT am slot that he just recently left?
There would be no issue about non-competes...and hell, that would have made for some pretty compelling radio for Chio to come back on and explain to all that "equity" what happened. Talk about radio drama, it would have been better than any stunt that Wired could, and will, pull.
Think about that for a second. As I understand it, it's still Chio's "crew" in place for their AM show at Q102...but no Chio?!!! And he was VERY available? Hmmmm...I don't have to be an APD to understand that one. Imagine WMMR with Steve, Casey, Kathy, Nick and intern Joe but Preston is waiting in his house for the phone to ring. ("Gaaaadddddzooooookkkks")

No, all signs point to the simple fact that Q102 didn't want him back...and, the brain trust at Wired was yet again opperating in desperation-mode...

Think the listener is confused? How about building brand "equity" in the most important daypart for a station? Especially for a "new" station in the market that needs to establish it's identity? Wexler makes a REAL good point. If it seems like every time you turn on the radio to WIRED you're pulling in a new morning show it might sway you from listening, plus I don't know about the average listener, but I usually find my morning show and stick with it til I get bored. The same should not be true for a PD

Sure everyone knew Ben Maxwell but he was never a figure head type of of guy (plus alot of idiots didn't know who Ben was or that it was actually Ben.) Then you get that moronic show next who I think they found playing the bucket drums down at City Hall's subway station. And Then someone from Hawaii... yeah not so much stuff screaming PHILLY RADIO. First off Chio's "market equity" is the highest in this market for females as Preston and Steve are for Males. Chio has been number one with females for five years running. and any station targeting females in this market would cut off there pinky to have him as was evident by the number of calls he has gotten in the past month.
Q102 wanted to hire CHIO back did you not see the newspaper article that said this?...i was also with chio when they called .....Chio turned them down
Chio also had offers from 7 of the top 20 markets in the country and he wasn't even looking for a job they all came calling him.

They may be confused now but after a week back on air all will be well again the Brand is CHIO not q102 most people just write CHIO in the morning not actual station... and there is this thing called marketing which you will learn about soon and it will help people understand Chio has changed stations listeners are not stupid....

i hope CHIO does NOT bring that Deigo guy. he made the show suck more then it did before.
also why does WIRED say WHERE HIT MUSIC LIVES? I only hear rap, hip-hop, Kelly Clarkson, Mest, gorillaz. Their is way more pop and alternative/rock that is doing well on the charts. play some of that.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by buzzrock on 02/19/06 06:01 PM.</FONT></P>

Next question Justice - Why is it that Q102 went UP in rank (other day parts) once Chio in the Morning went off the air each day, Justice? It's like the MORNING SHOW was bringing the station DOWN?!!! That's odd, you would think with such a powerful morning show as Chio in the Morning, people would turn him on and leave the station on all day...but actually, listeners would listen to something else AND THEN put Q102 on after the morning show was done. Ouch.

Two things Justice; let history be your guide - first, I loved all the marketing Wired did for Rocco, The Wild Bunch and Don Ho...it was every where! TV, billboards, bus backs...I mean Big Mama's face is just burnt into my memory...um, or not. That station blew it's load (cash wise) long ago, and I would hate to think what you're boy cost.
Too bad they couldn't buy an identity!!! What is Wired now? I mean, what is their "identity"? "All the hits"? "Where hits live"? "We're the discounted version of Q102"? "Hey, we got Q102's old morning show"?
Second, the listeners are not professional diary keepers. They might write Chio...and then again, in their busy lives, they might think Chio - the guy that has been on Q102 for however long it was (I think it was like 7 years, no?) and write Q102. You do understand how a diary works, right? I wouldn't have to explain that to Chio's personal producer...or do I?
The point? The listeners are not radio nerds like us. They do not CARE to take a second to really think about and differentiate what they are writing...they just do it out of obligation, not loyalty to Chio. They do not realize the impact of writing the wrong thing. Again, there will be a percentage of audience, that regardless of marketing effort, that are confused. Radio just isn't as important in their lives as you think.

I actually feel bad for you and Chio cause you are set-up for failure. Try to be objective here - if you really think about it, no on-air personality "saves" a station. That's why I used Tom Joyner as an example. Radio One threw a lot of cash around to market Tom Joyner AND he had MORE equity than your boy Chio...and that station is in the toilet. It's a team effort, all day parts must be strong in order for the station to be strong, and Wired is terrible.
David Lee Roth is being proven wrong every day - radio IS heavy lifting, and to think that you just crack the mic and listeners come flocking to you is asinine..and that's what you and the management at Wired are assuming.
Do not get it twisted - Preston and Steve and WMMR have TWO STATIONS worth of listeners cause a station was eliminated...Wired is only going to continue to lose listeners cause they are bored, and based on whatever Q102 brings in to replace your boy might just be the final death blow to Wired - "new" equals "more better" (for the short term)...and Chio ain't "new" to no one in Philly.
Last point, Justice, ax yourself this question: which came first - Q102 made Chio, or Chio made Q102? Based on the ranking of Q102 in other day parts IN DEMO it tells me that Q102's weakest link WAS CHIO IN THE MORNING.
