Chip Carray out at Turner Sports

Yesterday's AJC reported that Chip Carray has been relived of his duties at Turner Sports with three years left on his contract. I know he made alot of mistakes during TBS coverage of the MLB playoffs. He had been doing the game on Peachtree,I guess he will proably move over to FSN South/Sports South to replace Jon Schambi. I don't know who will take his place on Peachtree TV,I guess Ron Gant will do that because he filled in for chip when he was off doing the TBS games.

"It might be... it could be... HOLY COW!!!"

Too bad, he is a very nice guy. His late Father (Skip), and Grandfather (Harry) made plenty of faux pas on the air..

Yes but they were entertaining. Chip is just dull.

Maybe Chip can come back home to WGN.

You have to give Chip credit, he left Chicago amid some controversy, to take the gig here to be closer to Skip, who was not in line for World's Greatest Dad. How many of you would leave a cushy life to repair a strained relationship? He also took a pay cut.

Chip was promised Braves games on the superstation, TBS. After TBS stopped carrying the games, he moved to Peachtree TV and WGST-AM for pre & post game shows. He went from national to local in a heartbeat, that is not the contract he signed. He did get one national game on TBS per week, not the 120-150 he signed up for. Then his dad passed away. The rest of his family is in Orlando. Do you think he was happy?

When he was with the Cubs he was not dull. He lived by his grandfather's motto, "You can't beat fun at the old ballpark." It is my hope for him to take his rightful place at Wrigley. Having said that, Vin Scully just signed on for his 62nd and probably last season. Philadelphia and Detroit could use a big name talent as well.

Chip will be just fine.

I enjoyed Chip, not sure what everyone is complaining about. If he gets on w/FSN, maybe he can also do some work on The Far Flung Braves Radio Network/680 The Fan.

I was not a fan of Chip's. It's hard to explain. He's probably a great guy. But he came across just too sterile. Almost too polished. I love the casual banter between the announcers that makes it sound more like you're sitting with them at a bar watching the game on the big screen. Chip is more of an "announcer" than a sports guy. His delivery sounds more measured and planned out than the spontaneous chatter of people like Joe Simpson and Jon Sciambi.

He'll do fine, though. He's a pro with a ton of connections, a lot of experience and a helluva name.

Skip C entertaining?

He was dull as drying paint. And I'll stop there since he's passed away.

But he could explain the infield fly rule.

If only Joe Buck was relived from Fox, that would be better because joe is one of the worst broadcasters ever

false

It's not that Chip was bad, but that with the MLB package TBS now has, they can attract a far bigger name. And it's possible that MLB (who approves all talent) has someone in mind.

Does anyone think Josh (I think?) Caray will have his shot at calling big league games this year?

Wrong...

And as fas as Chip goes, it had to be done. He's NOT very good at painting a picture on radio or providing the play by play condiments on Tv.

I don't think so. I caught several of the Gwinnett Braves games Josh Caray did for CSS this year and I think he needs a little more seasoning before he gets a big league gig. Although, I suppose it wouldn't be a huge leap to for him to do Braves games for Peachtree TV since they only broadcast about 45 games each year. I still wouldn't bet on him calling big league games for another couple of years.

Josh is a diamond in the rough. Give him a couple of more years and he'll be ready.
