Is it me or is the NNE radio board pretty low-key and not so lively these days? I could have sworn that the previous incarnation of the board was very active, with a slew of topics. There doesn't seem to be that much activity. Could it be that there are fewer and fewer of us working in radio in New Hampshire or do you think that people just don't give a [EDIT] anymore. Or both? Or other? Discuss.

[EDIT-profanity]

Maybe taking a break with the holidays ? Maybe NH is relatively quiet, seems like the market defined by the mega-ratings company as number 179 (Lebanon, Rutland, White River Junction) seems to be in the line of fire on this board.. Ms. Milk Maid Mary being back.. That's big news !!

Seeing your post was read 105 times before I replied, it's not for lack of interest, certainly. And unless the same person "clicked on" 105 times, it's not for lack of "radio people" out there, either. (We'll get to the real reason, shortly.)

I believe most of us who have been in this business 20-plus years have seen the last of radio's hey days; a time when the on-air personality could actually exude personality. The "ton-o-fun" days have been replaced by corporate worries over offensive material and litigation and "the bottom line".

As someone who has done news in Hartford, Providence and Boston here in the northeast, the standards have dropped. AP has become unreliable and grammatically challenged. Thank God for the internet because we no longer have stringers bringing back the local news. That void gives those of us who learned 20 years ago how to localize a regional/national story, a chance to write "something" that still sounds home-grown.

Mostly it's all about working 60 or more hours a week in a 40 hour job and being very uncertain about tomorrow. The fun is no longer there. So unless you have a true love affair with radio, chances are it no longer "burns" in your soul and you probably could care less about message boards such as these.

Personally, I like reading. I find reading "fun". So, my opinion now given as to why so few people respond, I'll go back to reading Matt Drudge......

Great points Missy, thanks. In fact, having looked at the last three pages of entries, there are a lot of people lurking. Hundreds and hundreds, if you assume that each person only looks at a site once or twice.

Well put Missypoopoo....

I look at Burlington, seeing as that is the Market i'm familiar with. There is no life there, who is doing great radio there?

Sure, there are stations that are trying to be local and serve the community, but is anybody doing compelling radio. Where are the personalities? I swear, I checked out the Wizard, and they (their jocks) all sound the same...that used to be "the" station..what happened?

Personally, I would like to see the New Hampshire specific forum have some activity beyond my occasional posts. I don't like trudging through posts having to do with the surrounding states in order to find New Hampshire topics...

They stopped caring about current rock music, as if nobody in B-P wants to hear Tool and the Killers next to Van Halen.

most likely because the Hall folks also own WBTZ which plays current/alternative rock. There is not much sense in stealing shares from yourself.

There is when you want to reach an audience that wants to hear current mainstream/active rock music next to the classics without hitting the preset button. I'm not saying that WIZN should play Fall Out Boy, but they can create a fresher rock product that co-exists with their sister WBTZ.

WIZN will eventually have to share a few records with the Buzz anyway. A 21-year old Nirvana fan in 1992 is now 36. The music that led to the sign-on of the Buzz in the first place is the new classic rock. Not that this is a problem, of course. Overlapping titles are not a problem for Kiss and Jam'n in Boston.

Agreed, look at how Kool 105(another Hall station) has morphed from oldies into "Classic Hits"...seems pretty close to "Classic Rock" if you ask me.
I have noticed WIZN playing more Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, STP etc lately, perhaps that is the direction they are going.

I remember being 9 years old and hearing "Black Hole Sun" and "Creep" as currents!
