"Choice FM" Upped Their Power?

Is it just my imagination or has the unlicensed pirate "Choice FM" (102.9 Dorchester) gotten considerably stronger in the last few days (weeks?)? Up here on the North Shore, they were usually weak and spotty at best, now they seem about on par with WBLM up in Portland and, more relevantly, about as strong as (or maybe even slightly stronger than) the other area pirate blowtorch, Big City-101.3.

They got a power increase authorization from the PCC (Pirate Communications Commission) :) This is the
station that said on their website that they had the call letters WCFM (which will come as news to
a college station in NW Mass). Their "about us" page has claimed they're running 2,000 watts for awhile.

Here's a good one from that page:
>>Unlike most low power stations, WCFM is on the air on major holidays.

Really. My station, WMWM, which has been on the air legally since 1976, is a mere 130 watts and we are
on 24/7/365. So, I guess maybe they are a licensed LPFM then? Let's search the FCC database for them :)
Ah, I don't seem to see them but I bet they've gotten some nice letters from them about illegal
broadcasting. Or maybe not.

Yesterday nr the Beverly-Salem bridge I was picking up two signals at 96.5; neither was WMLL
from Manchester NH. Both pirates of some sort.

It seems stronger down here on the south shore as well. Choice is one of the longest running pirates around here. I think they've been on the air for at least 5 years at this point. The only one that I can think of that's been around longer is 89.3 in Randolph, which is now a 3 transmitter simulcast (Randolph, Brockton, and Mattapan).

A friend tells me that "Choice" is now interfering with his satellite radio car transponder set to 102.9 in the Back Bay and downtown Boston.

If you check out their "Advertisements" page, you'll see the station is for sale, complete with "entertainment license!" You too, could own your own pirate station!

That ad about the station being for sale has been there for a year or two.
