CHOW !?

the "old" calls of CHOW_am-1470,
never carried over onto 91.7's FM Operation
*A funny side note: calls: CFUK did..i still cant believe that one*

Anyways, I was tuned into 740-AM, (guy at work luvs the station : )
*esp. since am-1230(WECK) is the cowboy's choice..and heard
the calls "CHOW" !?

when did this happen...and, why ?
Any connection to the owners of giant/spirit..or a classic
case of am740 wanting those calls once they became available...

thnx
(thinking: Yeziknowradio will field this one )

Actually, AM-740's calls are CHWO. If I remember correctly, the CHWO calls, current owners and the current format were on 1250 in Mississauga. When the former CBC frequency at 740 became available, they were the ones who got it and moved everything over to the 740 frequency. I wish they'd add stereo. If I recall, they were stereo on 1250...but I could be getting them mixed up with another station out that way.

Correct. 740 is indeed CHWO, unless a (very) recent change was made...?
Also note that when 740 was CBC, and 1250 was CHWO, they also ran another AM station at 1320 in Mississauga that had a mix of multicultural and religious programming.
Now with 740 being the home of "Prime time radio" 1250 is Joy 1250, a religious station, and 1320 is all multicultural.

<---------------incorrect. 91.7 did not become CIXL until Spirit 91.7 changed over to variety hits.

Or, perhaps...and I'm out on a limb here, I realize...you could check the station's own website for the answer? :)

When Giant 91.7 came about, Spirit 91.7 was still the site for a while.
Sometimes websites can be slow to change...if a change was made at all...<P ID="signature">______________

Wasn't Giant the website which misspelled the names of core artists in a cool, animated graphic? :D

You are close. AM 1250 is still originating from Oakville, Ontario. The format moved to AM 740. Sterio is not in the cards, neither is streaming.

Don Andrews, one of the original broadcasters when CHWO changed to 740 can now be heard on www.lg73.com Tuesday through Fiday mornings, midnight 'till three AM.
