Mika, who's been at the sidelines of US radio across last year, seems to be finding a fan base in at least Boston, where a CHR demo--thousands of (screaming) teen girls--sold out the Orpheum, where the guy delivered. Kiss108 and Mix 985 missed out on this, which in hindsight, was a missed opportunity to connect with the demo. Is his upcoming show in LA promoted by any stations at the moment?
As a fan of the British charts I have been keenly aware of Mika's appeal, sort of a Scissor Sisters Meets Queen pop sensibility, and his tremendous success in most territories OTHER than the USA. Locally, our wonderful Indie 103.1 did give Grace Kelly a few spins, but mostly in the evening hours, when stations test new songs to determine if they deserve to be added to their heavy rotation. Unfortunately, they ultimately chose not to stick with Grace Kelly, and no other LA station to my knowledge has given Mika any spins. So we have not had the fortune of hearing any of his subsequent hits on local terrestrial stations, including his current worldwide hit Big Girls, and his previous hit Love Today. His next release is Relax (Take it Easy), and no station is promoting his concerts.
