CHR I most want to hear that I've never heard before

KAZX Star 102.9/107.7 out of Farmington, NM. Thinking of convincing my dad to take me out there just for that station alone to finally hear. It is very mysterious to me. What is the CHR you want to hear that you haven't heard yet but saw a web presence or something?

Are you seriously going to the middle of nowhere just to hear a radio station? Seriously, you're just crazy. ??? I don't think I know anyone who wants to travel somewhere just to listen to a radio station...

But if you really want to know, the station I would like to check out is 99.9 XTC in Gallup, NM. I'm not going to New Mexico just to check out the station though.

Icycool, I find myself sometimes happy to go somewhere so I can listen to the radio when I get there, I guess that's the definition of being obsessed with radio, to answer your question I would really like to hear Z100 in NYC. However, my parents would never take me somewhere so I could listen to the radio there

I think he means CHRs you've never heard until recently and that you would like to hear. In rhat case though, I would like to hear Z100/92.3 NOW NYC, B96 Chicago, WiLD 94.9 SF, Channel 955 Detroit and Z103.5 Toronto in my own hands. Those are my favorite CHRs.

I remember being up on the highlands outside of Erie, PA and picking up Z103.5.... I don't know how (especially with Star 104 nextdoor) but I was amazed.

I also listened to them quite a bit on a recent trip to Niagara Falls. You can pick up the signal quite well once you are up along Lake Ontario.

Erie's Star is also CHR if I'm not mistaken. I'm lucky I live in the listening area of Z and Now. They're pretty good stations. I'm not close to their studios I wish they would do more broadcasts out in NJ more towards the western end of their signal towards me. I'm one of the last areas to get them luckily for me. they saved the best town for last.

WELL............ ;D

Ok, maybe I wouldn't necessarily travel for that purpose alone, but I could always WANT to... and if I had any reason to go to Detroit/Michigan, or Miami, New Jersey, New York, San Antonio or wherever XHTO is, and even L.A. sometimes, I would not hesitate. As a matter of fact, I'd welcome the airport TSA to Touch Sensitive Areas just so I could get through the airport to the plane so I could get to my destination quicker - if it was a destination where my favorite sounding stations were!

Star 104 is a pretty epic CHR.

Travis,

I understand your passion. I try to plan unnecessary trips (but make them seem necessary) just to get to hear radio stations. It is an obsession.

I really think this is insane that anyone would wanna travel to hear a radio station to me its not that great its just a radio station its not like its a historical site or something

Well, you obviously don't have the same passion for radio that others in this group have. I personally love to travel to new places and don't need any excuse... especially when it's places I've never been before. I wouldn't necessarily say that a radio station would be my primary reason for visiting a different place; however, it is a really nice perk to enjoy different stations in your car when the stations sound good.

It's not nice to be all judgmental by telling others they are crazy or insane because their interests are a bit unconventional. We all have our quirks. I'm sure you have yours too.

Ditto on all of that :)...Though I'm not sure I'm planning a trip to Farmington anytime soon :D

Once fresh out of high school an older friend talked me into driving from Michigan to Washington D.C (with boombox & blank cassettes) to listen to the Grease Man on DC 101. That was before web streams though & they were AOR so that doesn't count. He & I also took a road trip to Chicago & I taped Z95, WYGC, but we had other business there for that trip. I wish some stations that have flipped would use their webcasts to have "classic" versions of their current format, such as AM800, CKLW. Have a secondary webcast of the old jingles, music, & I mean ALL the old ones, not the watered down Oldies format you hear every station use today. Make it "sound" like the Motor City. I know the old "blood & guts" newscasts & traffic reports wouldn't be possible, but they could still make it work on line. Imagine the hits that site would get. ;)

Hearing a new station I've seen online for so many years is so exciting to me though. Of course when the imaging sucks, then it's a real disappointment.

About 10 yrs ago when I was much younger and before we had internet and I knew of streaming audio I did once travel to Detroit to here 93.1 DRQ,, a CHR at the time, and also When Channel 95.5 was called Q-95.5.... So i cant say anything. Since then I havent traveled anywhere obscure just to hear a radio station,, there are plenty of similar stations online,, but before I had the internet,, yes I used to do this in the 90s.

Z100 streams online (just trying to save you an expensive trip to NYC lol just to hear Z100)

Wow at people traveling to rural places just to hear the radio station  - I'm sure rural CHRs are really exciting to listen to though, just cause they can have such broad playlists

I admit my stupidy I wont admit wear, but I just drove 10 hrs to hear a station that dont stream,,, and let me tell you,, wait till they stream online, or listen to other stations onlne.. Its just not worth the time and full to hear a radio station,, this is my final radio field trip... If that aint bad enough, I return home to find out the station is now streaming.
