CHR In Chico

It has been a few years now since Chico has had a Top 40 station. You'd think in a college market Top 40 would work out well. It's weird since we used to have a Rhythmic and a CHR station and now we don't have anything. Does anyone know of any developments of bringing a Top 40 station to Chico?

I guess college students are picking up 102.5 KSFM out of Sacramento. This is the only Sacramento station is easy to received in Chico.

Unless they have radio's with great reception, KSFM doesn't come through very well in Chico. I'm right next to the college and I can barely get it to come in on any of my radio's.

there is power in redding for those in north chico...maybe
ksfm can be heard south chico and oroville/paradise along with the end from sac

the 2 biggest problems for format are costs and sales.

can sales sell it in chico??? Its all about $. club 96.7 wasn't actually chr but it was closest. club went bye bye because It was a tough sell. Too thugish for people to even think about buying.

station costs. To do it right it takes good live dj's and that costs money. Right now eveyone is looking to cut costs.

ownership:
deer creek. have ideas and a glimmer of potential but enjoy being happy family status quo and meander through averageness.
Mapleton only knows how to cut costs and destroy brands(atleast in chico).when somebody finally purchases radio chico they will have to
blow up station or throw tons of money into re-invigorating the brands.
Results radio..really the only option to do it. but cost is biggest thing. Tend to be creative and try to excell but also tends to be self
destructive from what I've heard. Oldies is best candidate. It's been floundering and can't get much younger due to it's sister station bob.
Bob is jockless and doing great. Why damage a low cost money maker.

There is a hole for it. It will happen someday.Till then do what you do and look into streaming to cell phones. You may have something

think that was more about corporate vanity.

Chico is anti big box. Turns out the very people they want don't want them. They'll take local KZFR over the pig since the pig makes sure to be a bay area station being oinked out.

Actually, that's sort of what I'm trying to do. If something doesn't happen soon I'll probably move towards bringing my online station to the airwaves as a LP-FM.

you'd have to be a non profit or community organization for that. Perhaps another application window is coming. When?? The churches jumped on the ones that went up and chico state tried to get one.

You could try to broker time on a commercial station or try to hit up kzfr for a block of hours. Otherwise you'll be waiting for a lpfm for a while.

If you aren't trying to go far signal wise look into lpam part 15 on this site to reach the campus/downtown area but it would be on am.

as I said before. look into cell casting your stream. Narrowcasting to cells will eventually be the biggest problem for radio as bandwith goes up and costs go down.

I didn't realize that. Maybe I'll get the opportunity to spread the word on my internet station.

khhZ, 97.9, Regional Mexicano format, should be *****, and bring a new format!

Being the only game in town, I doubt KHHZ will change.

How about 101.7...satellite sports? What kind of numbers could it possibly bring compared to a CHR station with strong 18-49 numbers?

I personally think one of the country stations needs to die next. I know it's a big part of Nothern California. But come on, how many stations of the same genre do we need in one city?
