Since the last quarter of last year...where we had the debut of Kesha, FloRida, American rejects, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson.....I noticed these tunes have been producing catch hooks or choruses (even when there rap) and it seems that the industry has been trying to put out songs with more of a catchy hit appeal to them compared to the last roughly 15 years. The good thing is we seem to have 2 leaders that are not just playing or following the chart songs....but placing them on the chart as well. 20 on 20 and Goom Radio for example. There has been pretty decent picks, and misses, and I like to hear the phrase "Hitbound" or the clever "Hit or Miss" as heard on Top 20 on 20. Goom Radio has a unique playlist that seems to be more then current, or it becomes pre-current before you would hear them on basic terrestrial. It seems if CHR makes a comeback...alot can fall in the arms of credit for those 2 Internet or satellite stations.
Current Hot AC songs seem to still struggle alittle, ...but alot of the CHR seems to be crossing over a month later and filling in 20 percent of their playlist slots when it comes to charts.
It seems like Rap is been filling it's need as a chorus of a dance or pop hit tune and blending then the atrocious crap we heard in the 90's and most of the millenium. Do you think these 2 stations can be developing a trend, a trend away from corporate?
