When those boy bands were still around back then I enjoyed CHR radio more. Nowadays it's mostly solo singers. It was more local too back in the day. Does anyone else feel the same way? Why have boy bands suddenly dropped out of the CHR scene? Rap though is as popular as ever before it seems. Anyone care to comment on the changing history?

CHR music was better in the late 90s/early 2000s

I apologize for the sarcasm, but I regard the late '90s and early 2000s as a Dark Age for popular music, with boy bands as one of the prominent reasons for that.

IMHO, the late 90's were the beginning of the end of good radio. Too much pandering to niche artists that didn't last, discrimination against veteran and/or established artists, jettisoning rock for rap/hiphop.
The early to mid 90's were much better in terms of variety and choice.
In 1996 51 year old Eric Clapton has a big hit with "Change The World" , Everybody played it.
In 2002 Bruce Springsteen comes back with "The Rising" yet no CHR station would touch it because he's too old, yeah right.
The guys from Pearl Jam/Alice In Chains are only in their 40's yet that's considered old.
The next decade needs less audience research and gut programming.
