1) FERGIE - Big Girls Don't Cry (Personal): It's just alright.
2) ELLIOTT YAMIN - Wait For You: Uninteresting and boring.
3t) KAT DELUNA - Whine Up (f/Elephant Man): Summer anthem of the year.
3t) T-PAIN - Buy U A Drank...(f/Yung Joc): Wack but it's a hit.
5) CIARA - Like A Boy: This song will be a jam of the year. This song is crazy and is an all-around the day song (i.e. play it whenever).
6) PLAIN WHITE T'S - Hey There Delilah: I just think it's alright. Very "Good Riddiance (Time of Your Life)".
7) GWEN STEFANI - 4 In The Morning: I really like this song but I don't know how well it will do.
8 ) SHOP BOYZ - Party Like A Rockstar: This song is pretty wack. Broke "Stay Fly".
9) BOBBY VALENTINO - Anonymous: I like it, but it's obviously produced by Timbaland becuase it sounds just like "Icebox". Good song though.
10) FALL OUT BOY - Thnks Fr Th Mmrs: I still have nothing to add, just to say it's just an OK song.
11) NICKELBACK - Rockstar: This song is awful.

My favorite of the bunch is "Party Like A Rockstar" by the Shop Boys. Just came back from Miami and that song is all over the airwaves down there. It's hot!!! (totally dude)
Other good records in the are "Hey There Delilah", Fergie and Gwen's new records, the latest from Fallout Boy, and Ciara.
Where's Timbaland's new song at? It's such a great Dance record.

6) PLAIN WHITE T'S - Hey There Delilah -- chicks eat this one up
7) GWEN STEFANI - 4 In The Morning -- i think it's just alright
8 ) SHOP BOYZ - Party Like A Rockstar -- catchy, but i think too rhythmic for most CHR's
9) BOBBY VALENTINO - Anonymous -- not too bad

The Fergie song is very different from the rest of her stuff.

Elliot Yamin is blah

Kat Deluna is over rated

T-Pain is ok but more blah

Ciara is blah

Plain White T's is a great track.

4 In The Morning is not one of Gwen's best.

Shop Boyz does not fit CHR. Its 100% pure rhythmic CHR and urban.

The Fall Out Boy track is blah like the rest of their new album.

Rockstar is out of Nickelback's ordinary. It makes me laugh. But its still not a great song.

I agree with you on Eliott Yamin - sounds too much like Backstreet Boys ballads. Chicks prolly dig it though.
I think the Shop Boyz record will be gaining ground in the coming weeks. It's already Top 15 at KDWB Minneapolis and 96.1 Kiss FM Pittsburgh, and Top 10 at 106.1 Kiss FM Dallas, 96.7 Kiss FM Austin, and 97.5 WABB Mobile.
The whole "it does not fit CHR" argument hasn't worked in years when it comes to Hip Hop party records. Some of these records become monster hits on CHR radio. Besides, the definition of CHR/Pop and Rhythmic CHR is not well defined in 2007. Chicago is the perfect example: B-96, Chicago's Rhythmic, is playing Avril, Daughtry, , Pink is Top 3, there's Fergie's latest, and they're likely to add Kelly Clarkson's latest soon. Albany's Jamz 96.3 and Wild 104.9 Tulsa are other examples of Rhythmic CHRs playing Pop/Rock records. KLUC Vegas and KGGI Riverside have also upped their rotations of "Girlfriend" by Avril in the past week.

Sorry, but this record isn't all that accessible. And notice that ALL of the plays for this song list under PM and evening plays, which means this song is being used as a dance fill-in, nothing more. If you look up the plays to "Pop, Lock, and Drop It" or "2 Step", they will look similar as well.

That's interesting. 106.1 Kiss FM Dallas played "Rock Star" at 1 PM today. That's the top of the hour, which means its anything but a filler. KHKS is the only CHR in the 5th biggest market, and did I mention they're NUMBER ONE in the market?
101.3 KDWB, Minneapolis's heritage CHR (as in a good 50 years or so) played it at 2:10 PM today. Not exactly evening time.
Mobile's 97.5 WABB played it at 10:50 AM this morning. 96.1 Kiss FM Pittsburgh played it at 11:25 AM this morning.

Seems like more then just a filler to me ;D

Most stations show a number 1-3 for middays and even less for mornings, if any.

That's oftentimes the case with MANY new songs

How? I think you are getting confused, I'm not talking about overnight testing. I'm talking about the fact that it the song is getting 80% play during evenings.

Although a couple select stations have plays showing for middays, you have to look at more than 6 stations too, the play counts for the top 15 are 8, 1, 4, 10, 11, 0, 5, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0...

And not all rhythmics are played only evenings. Look up Whine Up's middays plays. I'm A Flirt, Like A Boy, Beautiful Girls (a BRAND new song)...all of these songs have consistent middays plays, not only 20% of the stations. The reason I'm mentioning middays is so important is that if a song doesn't get consistent middays plays in it's top 40-something age, it usually never will. All songs need the ability to be played at anytime of the day for them to be truly successful. And a station can only play a certain song during pm's and evenings so often.

Why didn't "Chain Hang Low", "Laffy Taffy", "Stay Fly", and "2 Step" go anywhere? Same reason.

All of the songs you list were probably top 5 phones where played. Are you saying CHRs should never play these kind of songs and just stick with the safe, mass appeal rhythmic songs around the clock?

Spongebag, it's a well known fact that most Hip Hop/Rap (not Rhythmic/R&B) titles that cross over to CHR/Pop start off at nighgts, work their way to evenings and afternoons, and so forth. That was definitely the case last year with Chamillionaire's "Ridin". Edgier Rock songs also tend to get a similar treatment.

I would agree... CHR's need to stick with the safe mass appeal songs. Why? because you chase away your adult audience (which is the audience you sell to advertisers) if you play songs like Laffy Taffy and Stay Fly outside of night.... great ratings with 12-18 year olds gets you no revenue

That philosophy worked out great...back in 1987 :p
A hit is a hit is a hit.

Let's see. 106.1 Kiss FM Dallas played the following songs at noon yesterday, a time of day where mainly the office crowd is tuned in:
12:00 PM Baby Boy "The Way I Live"
12:22 Young Joc "It's Goin Down"
12:51 Chamillionaire "Ridin"

101.3 KDWB Minneapolis played the following songs yesterday at 10 AM:
10:03 AM 50 Cent "In Da Club"
10:19 AM Bone Thugs N Harmony "I Tried"
10:23 AM Eminem "Shake That"
10:51 Baby Boy "The Way I Live"

While not every CHR may feel it can get away with playing Hip Hop hits at all hours of the day, it seems to be working quite well for others.
CHRs need to play mass appeal hits. Hot ACs need to play "safe mass apeal songs".

"In Da Club" is a song that charted #1 for 3, 4 something weeks back in spring of 2003. It's a good gold to play for any intro. "I Tried" is a midday-friendly record, that's WHY it's doing so well. "Shake That" has a weird history in that few stations played the song, but those that have had great success with it. "The Way I Live" has only peaked at #22 and is flopping as we speak, with a -189 in plays in 4 days. Regardless, that song has tested to do very well with adults and middays as well (yes, really, look it up). For the Dallas records, "It's Goin' Down" is quite a bad addition to your midday playlist, and it is quite odd they played that, but "Ridin'" makes sense in that it too has tested well to work at all times of the day.

So, my point is, the songs you listed have been tested (one four years ago) to work for middays already. "Party Like A Rockstar" has very poor middays numbers, and songs need to be able to be CHR-friendly at all times of the day for them to be huge hits. (ask anyone)

See my comments on the other/newer Adds thread.
You're wayyyyy overannalyzing the situation. KDWB doesn't care whether a song only peaked at 22 nationally. It'll play it if their audience are digging it. Same deal with Young Joc's record, and believe me that KDWB is not the only CHR/Pop station to play it before noon. Listen to stations in small markets like Key West or Joplin , Mo, or to a good number of large and major market CHRs.

I'm not overanalyzing, I'm simply saying that Shop Boyz record won't be a huge hit because records that have sounded exactly like it have not and never been huge hits.

I wasn't suggesting playing them during the day. I asked should they be ignored altogether. Personally I don't think so, because adult listening is way down at night. The adults that are listening are usually younger, more mobile and would be more prone to like these rhythmic hits. You won't be chasing "adults" way that aren't there. The formula of CHR playing these types of songs at night works in most situations if done right.
