Why isnt there a CHR-POP?What was the last CHR-POP in Vegas? What station might flip to CHR-POP?

> Why isnt there a CHR-POP?

Many people seem to think that CHR-Pop would not be successful in Vegas. This is despite the fact that the format exists in about 90% of the U.S. Most of the markets that lack a CHR/Pop outlet are in the Western U.S such as San Francisco/San Jose, Denver, and Las Vegas. Some would say Los Angeles doesn't have a CHR/Pop since KIIS leans heavily rhythmic (and has seen it's numbers go way up since shifting in a rhythmic direction).

>What was the last CHR-POP in Vegas

The last CHR/Pop in Vegas was 101.9 Kiss FM
from 2000-2002. It wasn't a success (decent cume, very low TSL even for CHR standards), but one thing it did well was hold Mix 94.1 in check. Pre-Kiss and post-Kiss KMXB has been one of America's top rated Hot ACs, the Kiss era was the only time Mix ever had mediocore numbers. But damaging Mix won't be incentive enough for anyone to try CHR-Pop here if no one thinks $$$ can be made with the format.

> What station might flip to CHR-POP?

I would say none, at least anytime in the near future. It would be interesting if one day KJUL flipped from adult standards to CHR. They would instantly go from having the oldest audience to one of the youngest.

KIIS is shifting back to a bit more of a Mainstream sound. They're playing Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends", Killers "Mr. Brightside", Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", Maroon 5 "She Will Be Loved", etc.

KIIS got horribly whacked by KXOL in August, losing over a share point and dropping 5 positons in 12+ in that month. They may feel they have lost the ability to be fully rhythmic due to KXOL, and are moving a different direction.

They still sound pretty rhythmic to me, though.

How similar is KXOL in LA to 99.3 La Kalle in LV? I think some people in Vegas have the misconception that 99.3 is "just another Spanish station" when in reality it draws audience from the rhythmics.

If a CHR-Pop ever came on in Vegas it would have to make these types of songs the bread and butter of the format since rhythmic/hip hop is already saturated.

KXOL plays more hip hop in English, and more Spanish or Latin hip Hop than Kalle, which is more pure reggaetón. Both are Spanglish in approach, and most listenrs come from CHR and rhythmic (but not urban) English stations.

Kalle in Vegas ONLY only draws from the thythmic English stations. There is no Spanish station where its potential listeners whould have been in the past.
