CHR Satellite Service?

No.

Why not? Anyone know? Some markets could take advantage of a service like this that plays the hits.

24/7 formats are TYPICALLY picked up by small market radio stations. These owners prefer to be more conservative, so the 24/7 network guys play it safe with an overload of Hot AC, Country, Classic Rock, and any other variation of 35-54 formats. Their Hot AC's are even typically conservative for a HOT AC.

Even some suburban stations in major markets may pick a satellite format that can easily be advertised to local businesses. While I have yet to see a CHR format being created by the big satellite services, Nextmedia once tried programming their own CHR station for the Joliet area on 100.7, trying to recreate the Bus that used to air on 99.9 in the Kankakee area in the early 90's. Nextmedia evenutually dropped the format not because of ratings, but advertisers overall refused to support the format.

If you are looking for a CHR night show, Romeo's Playhouse. It's offered by Superadio. If you have OHP already, it's the same bird, same closures, and same show map.

There is a station near Hilton Head Island I think it's WBDH or something like that the station is a sattelight feed it's called All Hits 92.1

The closest thing to satellite-delievered CHR recently came from Jones Radio Networks a few years ago. The format was called "Adult Hit Radio" and was supposed to be a Hot AC format that leaned slightly CHR. It was kind of strange hearing Fat Joe's "What's Luv" followed by 80s gold, but the format did fill that niche in areas where CHR wasn't offered and wasn't abrasive enough to scare away advertisers.

Jones decided to reimage the service a few years ago into a run-of-the-mill hot AC format.

Today, like another poster said, Superadio has Romeo's Playhouse at night and Open House Party on the weekends. I also think they have the Ace & TJ morning show. So, if you really wanted to go on the bird, you could run Superadio programming mornings and nights weekdays (and overnights if you choose to repeat Romeo's Playhouse), but middays and afternoons are up to the station to program.

The problem with CHR and a sat-delivered station is that CHR has a LOT of songs that are "regional hits" and not necessarily right for all areas. Because of that, how does one begin to approach the programming of a sat-delivered CHR format? Do you program straight down the middle of the charts, hoping that you achieve what you need in all of your affiliate markets? Do you program with a lean to either direction, again hoping that you achieve what you need in all of your affiliate markets?

That's the big difference between the exisiting satellite formats and the prospect of ever doing it with CHR... Country, Hot AC, etc are all pretty standard.

That being said, I wouldn't mind trying to program a satellite-delivered CHR format myself.

Also, different markets have different considerations of what they call "pop". For example, here in Chicago, the definition of "pop" is different than the definition of pop in, say, Murray, KY.

I think the problem is that you can lean in one direction or another on a chr by manipulating just few songs during the hour. Some markets may be looking a straight mainstream sound, some operators may want more of a rock chr and others a more rhythmic lean. A chr satellite service could never provide every affiliate exactly what it needs, because the sound can be so drastically altered with just a few songs an hour.
