CHR War Could Be Coming ?

Anyone know if the new KRLW facility on 101.7 has been built yet?

There really isn't a lot to do...

The new facility will be on the current 101.9 tower. All that needs doing is to hang a 6-bay ERI antenna on the tower. The array is slightly directional, but that won't add much complication. Heck, I'm betting they're using the old 101.9 feedline.

It can be done in a weekend.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the irony of a 4KW station and an 8KW station creating a CHR war…and a 300 KW heritage station already on life support being killed in the crossfire?

Yeah at the rate they are going FM100 will behind WCRV soon.

I'm interested in seeing the next book for sure and the spring book next year may really be something to see.

If CC does CHR on 101.9 maybe they will pipe in Kramer at least. It will be nice to hear some energy and talent on the station.

Kramer? Really? He has got to be the worst excuse for "talent" that I've ever heard on the air. His show only relates with nose-picking 13-year-old boys. Kramer's show is a GREAT way to run off your target demo in a hurry if you are CHR. Most stations will put him on because it's an easy, no-hassle way to get a voice on your air for a four hour shift. I would personally rather listen to people gagging themselves than have to listen to him.

Do you enjoy Kim Iverson or Delilah? Because that makes up 2 of the other 3 stations.

I hate them. I am sure 101.9 will be a voice tracked CC wasteland like everywhere else if it's CHR.

At least 107.5 has live DJs.

I really don't know why everyone keeps thinking this station is still owned by Clear Channel. I thought it was owned by East Arkansas Broadcasters. The website doesn't even look the same. And I don't get why a company would take the time and register so many domain names. It's just stupid and not fair. Who cares about a domain name?

Some guy who thinks he's "with it" and "clever" in a business suit probably dictates that they should register a bunch of domain names, hoping the nosepickers (that would be us) will bring it to light, causing the competition to either do something silly or make them crap a brick.

In reality, no one aside from the radio pros and use hangers-on really gives a flip. But sometime, somewhere it must have fooled the competition or caused "a stir" because people do it all the time. ::)

Re: icycool's comment about clear channel and 101.9's ownership. I was employed by clear channel when eab bought their Jonesboro cluster 3 years ago now. They DID NOT purchase 101.9. Eab has been in a lma agreement with c.c. since then and had an option to purchase that frequency in 5 years for 2 million IF c.c. had not moved the frequency into the Memphis market. Dennis Rogers

Dennis is correct. Clear Channel continues to own KIYS 101.9, though EAB has been programming it the last couple or three years. I'm not sure who will be owning the new KIYS on 101.7, currently KRLW-FM.

Kent, KRLW-FM moved to another frequency some time ago...106.3 or thereabouts...eab still owns 101.7 which will, I think, either be the new home of KIYS-FM or perhaps KFIN-FM in a swap that would keep KIYS at a full 100 kw. Time will tell. I understand that the changeover should happen around mid-August.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. KRLW-FM has a C.P. to move to 101.7 from 106.3 that was granted last year. The rumor I've been hearing is that Kiss will simply show up at 101.7 after 101.9 moves to Crawfordsville/Memphis, though you never really know when shakeups like this happen. Of course, regardless of where KIYS moves, it won't have nearly as good of a signal as it presently has at 101.9. I can actually hear 101.9 in St. Louis fairly often. Granted, that's well outside of its relevant market, but it's somewhat cool to a geek like me!

And, yes, you're correct that KRLW is partially owned by EAB. Looking at the FCC ownership records, Bobby Caldwell of EAB owns 45% of KRLW's owner. Thanks for the info!

Hey, Kent...KRLW-FM has been broadcasting on 106.3 for several months now. Meantime, 101.7 is silent...just waiting for the 'new' KIYS-FM to move in. Several folks in the know, however, do think that there might be a switch between 101.7 and 107.9 ...I know eab would like to keep it's 'cash-cow' (KIYS) at full power ...time will tell. So, how does KSHE-FM sound these days? dennis rogers
