Chris "Action" Jaxon gone from 97.9

Banned
I find this interesting, because this man has been with The Beat since day one. Rumors are saying that he was fired, but I don't know. His pictures are no longer on the site and Veda Loca has taken his place 2pm-6pm. Personally, I thought he was a good personality. Very community-oriented, and always doing charity work.

I've never listened to the station much, but I remember Action was very much involved in AIDS charities and awareness. I met him once at AIDS related event that my company was a part of and he was an extremely nice guy.

Back to the topic about the Urbans... think about it really hard and you will know why Chris was canned. He isn't "keeping it real" enough for thug radio. Hip hop is another format altogether. Hard radio is the crap going on in Big D, where it ain't hip hop unless it's thuggish, and that is BS. Hip hop was derived as an anthem of what was seen in the street, but specifically, what was wanted out of the streets, or the community.

Chris typified that. Radio One didn't care.

Pity. The more Nu Soul 105.7 airs, the more people it will attract. :(

Does not make sense to me that all the air personalities at 97.9 and 104 have to yell and scream in to the mic.

Why can't you have an urban station that sounds "professional". Do all the jocks have to speak the current slang of today to entertain listeners.

There was a time (late 50's, early 60's) in the Northeast when country (arguably the format most at the opposite end of the continuum from hip hop) took a similar approach. The jocks all used an affected southern drawl, used what they thought was rural lingo and dressed for remotes in stereotypical attire (bluejeans, string ties, cowboy hats and such).

In their own way, at the time. I guess they thought they were ``keeping it real'' for that genre but it was nothing more than a caricature. It took stations like WJRZ (serving NYC) to break away from that kind of cartoonish presentation for the format to be taken seriously in that region.

True. Well, then here's to the real urban standing up and knocking the teeth out of the mouth of Radio One and Fizz-o. This is getting ridiculous. Oh, and shout out to Action... DJs like him who love this town don't come around too often. We have had a few - they are either retired (Chapman), almost out the door or should be (Hal) or national and forgot where they came from (Kidd).

Sigh. :-\
