Chris Baker out at KSEV

Dan Patrick announced Chris Baker's departure for "unknown radio opportunities elsewhere" this afternoon. Good riddance to that no-talent, phony baloney, Shawn Hannity wannabe.

Baker is much more entertaining than Sean Vanity. Houston's loss...again.

Well, it's not KSEV's loss, that's for sure. I called in one time and he seemed utterly unaware what a Tivo was, and that one can record cable shows for later viewing here in the 21st Century. Later I heard him ranting how math teachers were teaching the distributive axiom of mathematics, and some how for him, because it had the word "distribute" in it, it was obviously a communist plot to indoctrinate our young with socialist ideals, and anyone who heard this rant who knows a thing about high school level mathematics instantly knew the man was an idiot. He probably got the whole rant from some wacko web page somewhere. The man is obviously out of touch for some reason, and while he may have had some talent for propaganda, when it comes to thoughtfulness and analysis, it seemed to me like he simply could not keep up. KSEV needs to be given credit for moving more towards thoughtful discussion, over the kind of ranting propaganda model still in use in much of local talk radio from the likes of other dinosaurs like Pags and Berry. I enjoy KSEV's "Three Amigos" show and their other discussion-talk shows, hearing intelligent discourse instead of the non-stop, going on five years now, Hate Week-style ranting we get from the rest of them is killing "Conservative Talk Radio", and I think programming more of it will lead to a brighter future for KSEV and maybe the rest of these other out-of-touch dinosauers will get the hint. Getting rid of Baker is a good move, the guy was always dead weight in these discussions with not much more to offer than today's talking points from Hannity and Rush. I mean, after all, this was the guy who was Bush's top cheerleader in Houston, who spent day after day telling us all what a great idea it was to invade Iraq, which showed his talent for analysis back then, for sure. There was no greater WMD-hook-line-and-sinker guy than Baker. In the end, he always seemed to look like he got it wrong.

I couldn't agree more SpinMan. Chris Baker is the dumbest and most empty headed excuse for a talk show host I've ever heard. I got sick and tired of him a long time ago when he was doing his mindless ranting on KPRC in the afternoons.

He actually spent several weeks pushing his belief that the Enron executive who committed suicide was actually "offed" by Enron higher ups to keep him from spilling "the real beans" on the shenanigans at Enron.

That was bad enough, but then he started in on Andrea Yates, mocking her full name - "Andrea PEEYA (Pia) Yates - and ridiculing her insanity defense as an obvious attempt to get away with murdering her five children. He never showed an ounce of compassion for that truly tragic woman and what her extreme postpartum depression led her to do. That's when I tuned him out forever.

I salute KSEV for showing him the door, and I hope he leaves Houston forever. We need to do what God did to Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis -- put an angel at the gates with a flaming sword to make sure he never tries to come back.

I enjoyed Baker from time to time, but his show always seemed like a "show" and not what he really believed. There were many occasions where Baker's show would have the exact same talking points and stories from the Neal Boortz show (who is not on in the Houston market) and Neal's Nuze on his website. So good luck to Chris elsewhere.

Great article in the National Journal today about what the writer sees as the end of an era:

http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/sarah-palin-and-the-end-of-an-era-20130126

This observation on Sarah Palin's tenure at Fox:

At a time when some conservatives reportedly have concluded it’s time to challenge liberalism rather than keep trying to stoke hostility toward Obama himself, she still attacks Obama in highly personal terms (“Mr. Nobel-Peace-Prize- winning president of ours”).

about Sarah Palin could be applied to a lot of Talk Radio as well. Time to actually start offering challenging ideas instead of just being some kind of sickening hate fest. Listening to Pags on the morning drive in this morning was a case in point, pretty much a non-stop attack on Obama personally, with the not-quite-said message being that Obama is some sort of trained monkey whose oratorical and political talents are some sort of scam from the black con man, another big day for the GOP winning over minorities [/sarcasm back] by proving everything Colin Powell said a few days ago. The problem is that it has all become so incredibly tiresome for casual listeners, unless they are obsessed with Obama-hate themselves, they do what I do, listen for about 5 minutes until my stomach turns, and then punch a button. The Uber-hate The Muslim Atheist Kenyan program model is dying, Dan Patrick is not a stupid man, I think he's figured that out, and he may be ahead of the pack this time with his more open talk model. While Pags gets me until my stomach turns, I've become a regular listener to Patrick's afternoon drive shows - and that my friends, is how business is supposed to work. I don't fault Baker himself, what he does worked for a while, but hey, it's going to be over.

As I recall, Chris Baker's moment of brilliance during his Minneapolis gig was suggesting Magic Johnson faked having AIDS.

Stay classy, Chris.
