Chris Cantore has left X1FM?

I logged onto their site yesterday and Chris is gone from the site. He has been replaced with a generic "X1FM Morning Show" banner instead. Anyone know what happened? I know that he mentioned when he first started that he had gotten offers from NYC (that got filled by Matt Pinfield, if I remember right) among others. Is he headed out of the area to an actual station?

They have him on a July 31 podcast - but he for sure is gone from the site now.

You have to figure that Internet radio really cannot afford to pay actual DJ's - at least not for long. Even the big non-radio wannabee such as Sirius can't afford it: sure they gave Stern much, much more than he's worth but ever since they have been bleeding money. The folks behind X1FM probably have rather shallow pockets so even if Chris left for a real radio station, I doubt you'll see anyone notable jumping in to that "gig."

It does not sound like he left on his own. This is from his blog http://www.myspace.com/cantore :

deja vu?
Current mood: disappointed
Category: Life

indeed.

once again, i am so sorry.

i will release a "statement" soon...very soon.

Bob is correct in this one from the $$$. As the Brave New World Order of streaming music happens, the return on investment has to happen. Chris Cantore is a very, very, talented guy. He can't work for peanuts. Chris has posted to Twitter (http://twitter.com/chriscantore) a few more nuggets, but his statement may be at a later date.

Meanwhile X1FM continues on and for the most part, has a great stream and iPhone users should invest the $6 for the "Tuner Application". You'll get this, and more, stations, in stereo. I listen to Radio Paradise and X1FM on the Coaster train. Except for a few obvious spots near Del Mar and in Rose Canyon, good reception.

However, the bottom line is $$$$ in and $$ out.

Best wishes for Cantore and for X1FM. I hope they both succeed.

Actually the talent on the sats is great. Im not going to run down the names on each station, but it reads like a whos-who of radio talent. I know the Alt and Hip hop stations have great talent.

Shame Cantore is out @ X1FM. Great morning show, best alt radio morning show in SD hands down. He will land on his feet somewhere soon. Maybe satillite?

Viva cantore. Aloha.

Yes they are good: but the satellite companies can't afford it and have racked up big losses to pay the bills and you have to wonder how long they can sustain that even with the merger.

I saw that KCLB-KDGL/Palm Springs has just cut some staff. Maybe there is a position out there? I think Cantore does some real estate work out in the desert. Im sure he could do both. Maybe being on air would benefit his real estate work and provide the extra income that would be needed as him and his wife expect their second child.

***Edit. Whoops, my bad. The article on all access was about a guy who was let go 2 years ago. Oh well. Maybe somthing will pop up out there anyhow. 15 years of an ass kicking morning show is somthing somebody could always use!

Cantore speaks

so, here's the deal:

cinco de mayo, 5/5/08, i was presented with a unique opportunity: interactive, new media.

unchartered territory for "the chris cantore show," i agreed to a 3-month "trial."

so there is NO confusion, they were extremely happy with the results. in fact, i was told, together, WE "increased traffic by 44%," broke records on X1TV, slammed the chatroom, and generated "thousands of sign-ups" through the network.

at the end of 3 months, i tried to renegotiate the terms of our "trial"...and, needless to say, it didn't work out.

Shame the best Alternative Radio Morning Show in San Diego is not on air.

Oh well, I guess 2nd best and 2nd rate will have to do. Sh!t happens.

Hope you're speaking of XM and not Sirius... I find the Alt Nation jocks on Sirius to be horrible -- to the point where just hearing them speak makes me either change channels or turn off Sirius completely. Madison and A.D. in particular sound like they only know how to talk about sex and who they want to have it with or make tasteless jokes about STDs.

The 60s on 6 (XM) has a puker. Makes the Sonic Salute sometimes unlistenable.

I'm guessing Chris you're talking about Terry "Motormouth" Young? I subscribed to XM a few years ago, could not stand his shtick and the reverb only made it less palatable. Yucccch

Yes, and it gets old very fast. Now if they had a few seasoned pros like Shotgun, Ken Copper, Chuck Buell, and Gene Knight for example .... Now your talkin'.

Terry Young IS a seasoned pro, and very famous for his fast talking on the east coast (especially Philadelphia). I have an aircheck of him on "HotHits, 98Now" (WCAU FM) in Philadelphia from 1981! One of the best. I think, just like music, this stuff is subjective, you either really like it or really don't.

Don't kid me Garrett, you'd never spend money on XM. Chances are you have never heard him on the 60s channel on the service. Many posters here and XM fans that I know say the same thing: Puker.

If by "XM" you mean Satellite Radio, I have been paying for the service for 3 months now.
If by "XM" you mean "XM" no, I purchased a Sirius subscription, and I am very happy.

I confess I have not heard Terry on XM, so perhaps he lost his touch? But if your are referring to the way he has always sounded, then I beg to differ with you.

If by plain English, I meant XM Radio. I still do. The new company is XM Sirius. They have not combined broadcast services. Don't let the facts get in the way of your confusing post.

I don't care what he sounded in silly Philly in the 80s; I referred to his Sonic Salute portion on XM channel 6.

hamNcheese is correct; this is a thread hijack. Not Jack FM, Garrett, a topic hijack.
