Chris Kidd...

Knowing that I've got the attention span of a four-year-old, I'm guessing I just flat missed this one...

On the Sacramento board here on Radio-Info.com, it was mentioned -- almost as an afterthought on a four-year-old thread about Paul Robbins and Phil Cowan -- that Chris Kidd passed away this past May.

Chris had owned KTHO for several years, and his Eastern Sierra Broadcasting was the springboard for numerous stations he had a hand in starting. He was also, if I remember correctly, doing news updates on KGO most weekends. I also believe he was a regular contributor here under the "newsperson" moniker.

I haven't been able to find an obit ... does anyone know anything about this?

Traded emails with Chris earlier this year. We worked at KROI many years ago. As far as I know he's still alive & kicking.

That's good enough for me. If you've been trading emails with him, he must be okay. Sorry to throw dirt on you prematurely, Chris!

The Nevada Broadcasters Association has a mention of his passing from June 2009.

Here's the original piece of info on the passing of Chris...I copied and pasted it from my email.

More info from (T-R-I) Tom Taylor from Radio-Info Email bulletin dated 06/03/09:

"Chris Kidd, who had been active in filing for several AM stations (such as a potential 1180 in Truckee, CA) has died unexpectedly, says his friend Paul B. Walker. He handled his FCC filings as Eastern Sierra Broadcasting and Kidd Communications, and he'd also worked on the air in California and Nevada."

Well I am sorry to hear of his passing. I last had an email from him not long before he passed and had no idea. I feel stupid now as I wasn't getting the Taylor On Radio Newsletter and missed this entirely. He was an interesting guy. We first met in the parking lot at KNDE. As I recall he had an aircheck of himself from I think KHYL on a boombox and was attempting to get hired at 1470. He was quirky to say the least and had incredible drive. A very strong desire to be in radio and he did it. We later worked at KROI where he did sales for a time. Funny thing, he once said something that didn't sit well with then KROI PD Robert John. Well Robert went after him and a physical altercation ensued. The end result was Robert losing his job. I believe Chris was let go as well. It wasn't pretty, but it did make for colorful stories upstairs at Fanny Ann's saloon for some time afterward.
