Chris Lydon's "Open Source" To Close Down

The Boston Phoenix reports that Chris Lydon's "Open Source", which just had a find-raiser to continue operations, will be dropped by WGBH-FM next month. I wonder if some donors will be looking to get their money back? It seems likely that 'GBH will start its jazz programming an hour earlier, at least Monday through Thursday. Will they keep the Friday night "On the Media" broadcast? That I'd like to know.

Only was able to tune in for 5mins. starting at 7:40 (to what sounded like a short story reading)? Chris wasn't on the air.

Radio Open Source doesn't air on Fridays...only Monday through Thursday. They've always been like that. According to the WGBH website, WNYC's national show On the Media airs at 7pm on Fridays.

Methinks you judge Radio Open Source as "closed down" a little too soon...while it's not a good thing, a show doesn't need to be carried by PRI or NPR to still be viable; anyone can distribute on the PRSS system (Pacifica immediately comes to mind). And yeah, it's not great for ROS to not be on the air in their "home city" but they're still on the air in several major cities: San Francisco, Seattle and Austin, for example.
