Chris Medlock another victim of the times

Hey Gang-
I just heard that Chris Medlock got the axe at Journal. I know it had to be budgetary but damn man Chris was great. He's a real natural. I wish him the best.

That's so sad! I really enjoyed having Chris as an option in the afternoons. I didn't always agree with him, but who always agrees with ANYBODY? :D

He was a great alternative to Hannity, who I used to like but within the past couple of years has seemed to have gotten quite shrill... I rarely can stand to do more than punch past him.

I heard him sign off yesterday afternoon & there was no indicator he would be gone... I assume they called him in to the office after he got off the mic.

I expect I will listen to Ingraham from time to time... but the Tulsa radio dial loses any time we lose a local live personality like we had in Chris.

(It appears we will have one live hour in the evenings, at 5, with Elvis Polo, so I suppose it's not fair to say they're ALL syndicated after Pat Campbell...)

Chris far and away is a much better talk radio talent/host than that punk Hannity. Hannity has lost all perspective. Chris hasn't been heard by the right network string puller yet. I strongly encourage Chris to stay on the air where possible. He is a terrific talent! I'm a Democrat so I don't agree with anything he says but that doesn't mean the cat's not great. I hope he lands of his feet very soon. KRMG could use a guy like him in the mornings.

Lord Bob

Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you guys - such a shame to see another local host gone from the market. I can't imagine that Elvis Polo will hold up to anything KRMG offers - even if it is Hannity.

Good luck - and God Bless.

I'm sorry to hear this about Chris also, as I think the loss of local radio hosts is what is killing radio today. I find Sean Vanity to one of the most irritating and difficult to listen to 'personalities', shrill and obnoxious. But that's only my opinion.

Best wishes to Chris on his future employment.

Too bad for Chris, I know this isn't the first time he's found himself in this situation. He was a victim of downsizing several years ago at TV Guide's operations in Tulsa too.
Good luck to Elvis Polo and the "live at 5" concept. I for one will be tuning in.
I absolutely can't stand Sean Hannity and KRMG's constant conservative bent. That station is alienating anyone who used to listen w/ its non-stop anti-Obama conservative drivel. Even if you don't like our President, how can you listen to that station hour after hour day after day?
Radio is killing itself in part, by overprogramming conservative themed shows. You're automatically alienating 50% of your potential audience.

I'm hearing (via Twitter) that there will be "MAJOR NEWS about the Tulsa radio landscape to be announced at 3pm" today on KRMG, & Rick Cori said "This is big folks!"

I suppose it is something other than Chris Medlock joining KRMG... but if not that, then what? Is KRMG going on FM or something?

OR, or, KRMG could go classic country!!! ;D

maybe not...

ONE MORE:

I know they've wanted to carry Rush & Hannity live for a long time... now that Harvey is gone (R.I.P.) you move Rush to live at 11, Hannity to live at 2, then put Medlock on 5 to 7, Savage at 7, etc.

That HARDLY seems like "big" "major news about the Tulsa radio landscape," but otherwise I'm drawing a blank... And I've been burned in the past by "major" announcements by KRMG that turned out to be almost nothing.

If they're going HD, I'm going to weep... that would be a step BACK, not forward...

I would also suspect that only radio geeks like us (o.k., ME, I'll leave YOU out of it) care about this sort of thing... I don't know if a "buzz" is starting in offices around town. My impression from talking to listeners in the past is they figure they'll hear about it sooner or later.

..HEY! Maybe Cox is buying KFAQ!!! That would be massive from a business standpoint, Cox owning the two biggest AMs in town... but I don't quite know why the KRMG audience would care... unless they shared newsrooms or something...

$20 says every guess I've made so far is wrong. :D

..And yeah, I'll be listening at 3...

3pm seems like an odd time to make a big announcement involving scheduling or personnel changes. Why not make the announcement during the morning drive?

I don't see KRMG carrying Rush/Hannity live b/c they carry the last half hour of Boortz's show which doesn't end till 11:30am CDT. Rush starts at 11am CDT.

Maybe KRMG will start carrying OU football and basketball for the 2009 season? Could that be it?

I have a feeling this will be something incredibly stupid. Sean Hannity is coming to Tulsa or Rush Limbaugh is going to sign autographs at Sheridan Lanes.

Glen,

I don't think they'd mind cutting into Bootz because, as much as I like him, his numbers have never been that great.

KRMG's latest Tweet says "MAJOR changes to be announced AND implemented at 3pm on Tulsa's KRMG."

That kinda blows the idea of Medlock at 5 out of the water... although they could simply be replacing Hannity with Medlock... doesn't Hannity still get good numbers? Those who have posted here seem to agree we can't stand him, but if the numbers are good I wouldn't think you yank what works.

I'll admit, to me Medlock doesn't "feel" like KRMG, whatever that means, but I'd sure be glad to have him back on, as I know a number of other people would; BatesLine said his numbers were good... and honestly, when they got Savage, HE didn't feel like KRMG, either... yet he's done just fine.

Otherwise, those "MAJOR changes" "implemented at 3" better be KRMG switching to all-disco... loll..

(I'll throw up one more impossibility: John Erling? OK, two: John Durkee?)

This, btw, is how you keep a radio idiot like me busy: tell him a MAJOR announcement is coming. ;D
