Chris, Mike and The Zoo Return

Looks like Chris Collins, Mike Reynolds and the rest of the zoo are planning a return to the Sacramento airwaves soon. There's word that it's happening mid February but station is unknown at this time. Also heard it won't be KSFM, but plenty of old KSFM talent is involved in new show.

Its a 'syndicated' show.Exactly where it comes from is anyone's guess right now. They have a Facebook page up,Chris and Mike, and an impending website.Collins is also involved with the Sharks dealings with China Hockey and is in Asia for part of the year.

It was mentioned at 107.5 here in Sac on the Facebook page but I think that may be a misprint.I have some inside information but I have not exactly heard from any horse's mouth yet on this. The set launch date is Feb 15th.

This "show" debuted on Monday AM on KQPT in Chico (107.5 and 107.9).  KQPT is Hot AC, so its a tad bizarre to hear raunchy penis jokes, drug-induced memories, and flatulence discussions between Tayor Swift, Colby Caillat, Lady Gaga, and GooGoo Dolls.  Half the bits were identified as "Best Of", which probably explained why the sound quality was somewhat like listening to scratchy 33.3RPM recordings. On Monday, they would "joke and giggle" in barely understandable bits usually lasting 5-8 minutes, go to a short commercial break, then play one song, more commercials, then another :comedy: moment.

I am new to the region, so supposedly these jokers have quite a following about 100 miles away in Sacramento.  Maybe the Chico college crowd will think its cute and funny to talk about getting laid or scoring drugs or farting.

There seemed to be a re-launch of the station after the start of 2010, with new station IDs that no longer reference the long-dead www.107thepoint.com site.  Every commercial break now seems to have a local sales person urging local businesses to call and set up an appointment to begin advertising on the station. They also started carrying a syndicated acoustic show from Phoenix on Sunday AM, bumping Ryan and AT40 into Sunday afternoon.

Of course, the station is pretty much a mess.  They played the AT40 Top Hits of the Decade every week in January in lieu of the regular Ryan Secrest AT40 weekly shows.  The all-80s Saturday is fun too. They have played the same episode of Nina Blackwood 80's show for the past 6 weeks every Saturday night at 5PM.  And it's always fun to listen to their Saturday afternoon female DJ (Kiwi?), whose voicetracking is usually off by one or two commercial breaks, announcing songs that haven't played yet as "sounding so good to hear again".  Plus I think they replay the same half-dozen episodes of "12 Inch Retromix" every Saturday night.  Since Saturday is "All-80s", its not as if we are missing "new" content anyway.

So much for music in the AM.  I will dial back to the oh-so-boring and tedious MIX95.1.  Their AM show is hardly entertaining, but at least they play music and limit the inane chatter (and also give news headlines and weather).

Haha, for a while I voice tracked KRAK overnites when I worked in that cluster (shortly before KRAK went away.) I was told i could voice track a few days in advance, I did lots of other stuff in the building with the other stations so my time was limited. Often the system would mix up the voice tracks, and I'd hear the voice tracks for next day or so tracks with that night's music.

Dang, that Willie Nelson song sounded an AWFUL lot like Eddie Rabbit! ::)

Did they pull the morning zoo off the Chico station? Anybody got info on this?

Yes, the show got pulled in Chico, but from what's being reported from up there the company just created a blood bath with the staff. They fired all but one jock and gave 30 day notices to the rest of the Admin. staff. So it's just one jock and a sales staff for 4 radio stations in Chico. My guess is the company is done there. A sale or BK can't be too far away.

Ouch. I remember Mapleton's creditors taking over the company a while ago - probably last Summer IIRC. Sounds like they couldn't make a go of it in that market at all. I always wondered why they didn't put the CHR on 96.7 and move the KPIG format to 107.5. Seems like a natural to keep the freq. the same as Monterey Bay, plus they actually had a chance of a rim-shot audience in SAC. Oh well...
