Chris & Monica in the Morning

The observations in the post are by no means scientific, however, given what I see anecdotally, I don't think that Mr. Parker will be hosting mornings beyond his current contract. Let me explain why I think that is the case:

1- Extremely low ratings in the all-important 6+ numbers
2- Extremely low listener engagement on social media (Twitter & Facebook)
a- 1700 fans on FB, but scant comments on posts
b- Chris also has extremely low engagement on his personal FB profile
c- Could not find a Twitter page for the morning show, but Mr. Parker has one with only 628 followers
3- Just a crazy hunch on my part

I hope that Bonneville decides to keep Monica if they part ways with Mr. Parker. Or perhaps they will go through another format change? They seem due for one. Your thoughts? Am I reading too many tea leaves here?

You could be right, but it would be idiotic to fire any entertainer based on social media response--_any_ entertainer.
I'm no longer in the Phoenix area and haven't heard Chris and Monica, but entertaining on the radio is more art than science, and that art should stand on its own.
If anything, although tritter and facebook can be viable tools, they may also distract from radio's primary job: to engage people and keep them listening. Not clicking, not tweeting, but listening.

Like I said, it's more anecdotal than scientific. By comparison, though, other stations have far more interaction and subscribers. Naturally, FB and Twitter might not be a true guage for ratings, but there just might be a correlation. I think if I were a PD or station manager, I would want to find out if there was a correlation between the two.

And you are right, it would be idiotic to fire a personality based simply on social media. Unless of course that is one of the measures of success in the contract. There has to be a metric (or metrics) whereby you measure the talent.

Chris does an excellent job engaging with his followers, but there isn't a lot of recirprocation.

KOHS: I'd have to agree with metroplex on this one regarding FB/Twitter, it would seem also that the peak's demo is probably not as engaged in social media at a constant rate like say kiss or Jams. Also, your comments regarding ratings demos are not really on point. The 6+ numbers are not really all that important, it's the target demos that you want to keep an eye on...25-54, 18-39 (women/men) depending on the format.
Whether or not they keep him around is not the big issue here, the bigger issue would be the peak developing a brand as a whole. The station seems to have flip-flopped quite a bit in the last 5 years not having a very clear direction and they identity has suffered as a result.

I listen to them from time to time and noticed that they started including their producer... from my perspective, he seems to be a bit too overwhelming in the morning and feels a bit too much like he's talking over Chris and Monica. Not a fan, personally.

Other thoughts?
