Chris Ryan back at DRC-FM

Away since 2003, he's back. Looks like he's got Rob Ray's old Saturday midday shift, with Rob moving to 3-7 and Mark Andrews going to Sundays 1-6. No more weekend work for Mike Stevens.

Stevens, Kristafer, now Ryan ... any other old DRC voices set to return to Bloomfield?

How about Jack Carney?? Maybe they could bring him back and find a slot for him to fill. Always really enjoyed his shows and was sorry to see him go!!

I remember reading on this board that he'd filed an age-discrimination complaint against Buckley after he was dumped during the brief "Big Hits" format tweak (lots of '70s, lots of '80s, very little '60s) of 2005-06. I'd imagine there are too many hard feeling there for Jack to even consider a return.

I liked Jack's style, too, although he was really a fish out of water back in the winter of '05 when they had him talking up songs by Blondie and Phil Collins and the Cars.

KML224,

Correct, Jack used to do fill on 'RCH.

Mike West (Westie) from DRC-FM, TIC-FM, etc. was also in w/Jack on the Age Discrimination lawsuit.

I used to work w/Jack @WBIS & Magic104.

"You're enjoying soft rock, with less talk, in 30-minute sets of songs every hour. Magic 104, WIOF; Waterbury, Hartford, New Haven"...or something like that. Ah, those were the days. ;) And who can forget WBIS on Farmington Avenue right next door to the Burger King. :)

I worked with both "amfmradio1" and Jack Carney at 'BIS. I was there for 10 years...went next door to BK many many times! A lady who worked at BK in the latter 70s and early to mid 80s is still there!

I can still hear WBIS signing off each night, I can still hear "Yankee Doodle Dandy" playing in my head.

I miss community radio stations such as WBIS.

Even though much of WBIS's programming was horrible, it still had that hometown feel and would be the first station we would tune to when we wanted local Bristol news. As bad as some of it seemed looking back it was great local radio the way it was supposed to be.

Damn now I miss WBIS... and I could also go for som Burger King Onion Rings. :'(

Back on Topic, I believe I use to sing Karaoke with Chris Ryan at the Berlin Station Cafe in Berlin. Hes not a bad singer. :D

The playlist at WBIS was too restricted. Mike Hassan used to have a hissy if a song contained any degree of distorted guitar. What I did enjoy about BIS is how well Don Moline and Brian Dow got along.

I grew up an lived in Bristol until 2003. I used to like listening to the Bristol news on the station. They used to broadcast live from the Bristol Auto Club's Classic Car Shows on Saturday nights and used to play great oldies and when the show was cancelled or it was off season they'd play the music from the studio. Good old 1120AM. (Yeah my memories of the station are from after they moved to 1120). I liked community radio too and after WBIS went off the air in 93, I began listening to Southington's WNTY 990 AM (now WXCT). It's a shame what happened to that station too. :-(

I know, I'm pathetic for quoting myself. I just want to say it was a miracle that 990 AM was able to come back to the community twice. I'm sad to say, I seriously doubt it will come back to the community a third time.

Like or hate the way Charlie Profit programed that radio station you got to give him props for providing 25 hours a week of local community programming. And that was in addition to the 8 hours on Sunday that served the ethnic and religious communities with the Lithuanian, Italian, and Polka programing along with the mass from the Lutheran Church in Bristol. Actually let me amend myself, yes it was 25 hours a week of local community programming when they flipped formats last year, but it was actually supposed to be going up to 28 because the Saturday after what was the date of the flip I was supposed to be doing my own show Saturday Nights from 10PM-1AM. And actually one could even argue that it was 35 hours a week of local programming before they flipped because Charlie's 2 hour show was rebroadcast during the overnight hours.

To this day, I have a WBIS bumper sticker and a WNTY bumper sticker.

Now MarcB, if you're going to wax nostalgic about WNTY/WXCT, please bring up the WXCT thread somewhere in this board and post it there. 25 hours community programming a week? Marc, sorry to bore you but when I was there, we provided up to 14 hours a day during the week and up to 10 hours on Saturday...and we were signing off at 5:30 PM on Saturdays at times. Even when the ownership group before Profit and crew came on board was on it's last legs, we were good for at least 10 hours a day.

Excuse me, but I think in the year 2007 25 hours/week of live and local community programming on a small AM station was damn good. Considering the state of many small town AM stations across the country. Even WATR 1320 which carries some programming from JONES' Good time Oldies Network they are still doing a good job serving the community. They are local from 5AM-1PM Monday-Friday. And 6PM-730PM Monday-Friday. They also have local news and traffic updates during PM Drive. They also have some local programming on Saturdays 6AM-12PM (or 3PM depending on whether or not Larry Rifkin has other commitments). WCCC 1290 also does a good job serving the communinty. While they don't have West Hartford specific news and traffic, etc on the station, the cover high school athletics from both high schools in West Hartford. They also pick up basketball from Quinnipiac University which would be considered semi-local programming and they also carry the CT Sun NBA team, which would be considered semi-local programming.

I'm trying not to drift off topic, but I remember tuning in WNTY 990 AM when they had their country stint in the early 80's or earlier.also I remember Rick Shea from WIOF country days ,hosting a country countdown on WNTY, I think I still have a aircheck somewhere of his countdown.Does anybody know the wherebouts of Rick Shea.
