The Sade cut "Soldier Of Love" is, in one simple word, dreadful. :(

You have made that ABUNDANTLY clear to me, my friend, so much so I am hearing it in my sleep!!! :D

I wasn't feelin' Soldier of Love either, and it didn't actually perk up the listeners ears either so it got 2 obligatory "we have it" spins them into oblivion. Go to iTunes..they already have clips up. Sounds like there are several stronger and more appropriate songs on the CD.

I'll go to "THE REASON-THE MUSIC" thread for my response to current music. Nice discussion here though, but I did help in the "hijacking" of this thread! :)

Getting back to the original topic I tried several listens to "get" this one but I've never personally been a fan of string sections and orchestrations - that goes back to the days when WB would clutter up their singer-songwriter albums with Nick DeCaro's string arrangements. This is a really dark album mood-wise but the title and the cover art alluded to that so it's not a surprise. I respect it artistically and creatively but can't listen to it. It's like looking out the window on a cold, cloudy day.

And that's exactly how Chris intended, Cat. Am I saying it is tons of "feel good" music? It's not. But it's risky, different, and from Chris's heart, and that's what I like about it. If you hear him talk about the inspiration for the project, I think you'll have a better appreciation for what Chris was trying to express musically with it. It worked for me, but I can see why it wouldn't work for others.

That's why I can say that I respect it artistically and will play some trax on the show but as far as personal listening I've never been into dark stuff..already have a tendency toward depression that I don't musically feed..(it runs heavily in the fam)

Sorry to hear that. I have my moments with it as well dealing with chronic Lyme disease and polyneuropathy for the last 13 years. It's the music that keeps me going, and even the dark stuff I can tolerate if it is creative and from the heart, which Chris's CD is.
