Chris Stigall' first show - Nothing to see here

Today's Chris Stigall's first day on WPHT. Here are my first impression bullet-points:

  • 1. Primary focus is on conservative 'echo chamber' talking points.
  • 2. No local commentary despite moving to Philadelphia. The closest thing to local content was when he banters with the traffic report about the increase in PA tolls.
  • 3. Does not take any callers (since 7:30am). He's teased callers to call in but I have yet to hear him take any callers. It's 8:53 and he just did it again, but went directly to commercials.
  • 4. Chris's female co-host is simply pleasant and agreeable with little added commentary. Chris clearly drives the conversation at this point and everyone else is following his lead.

If you're looking for a fresh-voice that echo's the same conservative talking points of Hannity, Rush, etc then Chris may be interesting for a few days. If this is the format we can expect out of Chris I really find it confusing why they moved him from Kansas City to Philadelphia. It would have been cheaper to setup a home studio in KC with an ISDN line to the CBS network.

Note: Chris just took his first caller at 8:59! Just a ditto-head comment and a bash against Smerconish. Wow, that's really local.

Yes, all of the press releases indicated that he moved to Philadelphia. I really don't understand why he moved to Philadelphia unless he's trying to get closer to his parent networks in NYC. If he intends on having any local content then we'll have to give him time to get a feel for the area, but his first show definitely didn't convey any local focus.

Does the show have a producer? Someone to book guests? It's hard to imagine that at a major market talk station in morning drive the host does everything. The people doing show prep should know Philly - or did he bring production people with him, too?
