Chris Stigall- weekend TRN show debuted this weekend

I heard an hour of it today. I think it runs longer but the affiliate I had on only carried one hour.

Great talent. I've heard him before, on morning drive on KCMO, Kansas City's heritage talk radio station.

Good show. It was great hearing how he juxtoposed soundbites from the bawling Ellen and ABC evening news anchor Charles Gibson saying, "the news out of Iraq tonight is... no news..."

Anyone else hear his show? I think this may be Stigall's national debut in syndication (I did heard him sub for Rusty Humpheries a couple of months ago).

Nothing against the guy, but apparently anyone can get syndicated. You're telling me there was no one in markets 1-29 who wanted a national show? Let's just syndicated everybody. Who cares if they all have 1 affiliate?

So you get to decide who gets a show?
And who says those other hosts want a national show?

It isn't like there are that many local shows as it is on in many of the 1-30 top markets, such as Tampa, Miami and Atlanta, which have scant local hosts outside of a.m. drive.

Stigall's show was great, as is his weekday show in Kansas City. That's hardly a small market and is home of one of the country's pioneering medium- to large-market talk stations, KCMO-AM.

Nothing against Chris. However, that pioneering talk station is now exactly what you say - a repeater for TRN, ABC, and Dave Ramsey, and standing in the shadow of KMBZ.

As to who gets a show, I don't run TRN (I actually graduated from high school, so I'm not eligible) but seeing that this is a comment board, I gave my comments. Maybe radio would have more local talent if every yokel from a top-30 market didn't have a syndicated show. You're defying dictionary definitions. Granted, Chris' local show is on the weekdays and his syndicated venture is on the weekend, but you are well aware how so many local hosts go national, further reducing the pool. Mike McConnell of WLW has syndicated weekday and weekend shows; how WLW let him go national M-F is beyond me, and apparently beyond the many program directors who have not cleared his show. Like Tom Leykis, Larry Elder (albeit not anymore), and others like them, McConnell basically talks to the Tri-State, but with a toll-free number.

And, yes, I believe WLW has a toll-free number itself. Just using a form of speech.

I agree totally. Points taken.

And I see you remember my earlier posts about former heritage stations such as KCMO, WIOD, WFLA, KRMG, and now (unfortunately), WOR etc., running mostly syndicated shows.

WIOD, Miami, however, moved Glenn Beck to evenings and brought in a local host, so that's positive. (I actually like Beck and think his show has much more depth than Hannity or Limbaugh).

About Stigall, his show fills a Saturday or Sunday void. He sounds great. I just wanted to express my feelings on that.

I also agree Don, and points taken as well. The only problem for Stigall and the rest of the weekend syndicated product that has come along in the last several years is that weekends are now primarily for sports PBP, home and garden shows, repeats, and brokered time. There aren't too many weekend political shows lighting the world on fire. Mike McConnell is a real pro with two decades of huge success at a heritage blowtorch, and his weekend show after 4-5 years has yet to be a staple even within the industry. Congratulations, Chris, but I'm afraid not too many stations are looking for what you have to offer. Hopefully TRN pays you enough for your trouble. I doubt it, but I hope.
