Chris Tyler in for Jackson on Kiss

I know he is the PD of Kiss and Jamn, but why does Chris "Tyler" feel the need to put himself on instead of somebody who is probably a more talented jock? There is no excitement in his show when he fills in for nights, or on the weekend. How did he become PD anyway?
