Chris Wheat IN at Cumulus Indy

Just read the story on the R&R website.

Many of you were thinking about it. And you were right.

Let's see what Chris can do.

He'll be able to do as much or less than Morgan. That's the condition of radio in markets the size of Indianapolis or larger. Corporate runs it. If you want to be creative you'll have to settle for a smaller market. You'll enjoy what radio was meant to be but you won't make any money. Meanwhile, everybody's listening to ipods anyway.

Chris Wheat is a very affiable, likeable guy, and a strong personnel manger. Cumulus, by design or by pure dumb luck, probably could not have chosen a better replacement for Charlie Morgan. They have many similar qualities, so the transition for everyone on Shadeland probably couldn't have been made any more painless.

Chris also has had much more experience dealing with harsh corporate types, so he may be able to provide a little better shield for his staff from all the corporate crap that rolls downhill.

Chris is also very transparent. You get what you see. No hidden stuff.

The stations may not perform much better; Charlie did a good job. The folks at Shadeland may get through his departure much easier, though, with Chris coming in.

Will certainly be interesting to see what he can do - and how long he stays!

I understand Chris Wheat started at Cumulus this week.

Beyond the eerie feeling of settling in at his office on North Shadeland after a couple decades on Fall Creek, and the big task of trying to boost the morale of a staff clearly demoralized, what do all you programmers out there think he can do to improve the products.

That cluster historically has been a major player in the market, both in terms of ratings and revenue. I've never seen two stations at that address struggling as much as WJJK and WWFT. Granted, I'm only referencing 12+ ratings here, but I don't ever remember two stations on N Shadeland with a 3.3 and 1.1 respectively [latest trend, Su Ph2]. Emmis' properties bottom up are performing better.

Before you simply dismiss the challenge as impossible because of all the voice tracking, and syndicating programming, recognize Chris doesn't get to use those excuses. So, what does he do, with what he has, to keep his job?

Chris and Cos. real opportunity is to crush (no clue) wklu. He (Chris) knows rock, knows where the money is,
capitalizes on their weakness' - (marketing/promotions/leadership/inability to recruit) and teaches Oasis a lesson.

It would be nice to see The Song return from HD2 limbo.
at the expense of what FM talk 93.9 (Aint going no where for a little while with the hannity contract unless they breach it. It Cost them to much to steal it from WXNT. So I dont see them dumping out of it this soon. Or Jack

Chris will take JACK out of the box. After all, he remembers the guy who tried to get 3 million
in JACK out of him. Now, he will JACK that guy with JACK. JACK 104.5 FM.
