Christian Contemporary?

Would a Christian Contemporary station work in Philadelphia? The only Christian music stations around are WZZD, WBYO, and WAWZ but they have very weak signals or no signal at all in the region. It would be nice if Philadelphia got their own Christian music station.

The area DID have a CCM station-WSJI 89.5 licensed to Cherry Hill. It's now an EMF station running the K-Love format.

97.1 gets the majority of the city, if only it could be a Class A and reach the suburbs.

Wait, 103.5 is also in Philly? I thought I Dx'd that from NYC one time in Lansdale. It actually was KTU too..

And I've lived near here all my life, except for the first 18 in Scranton.

Don't forget "Reach Radio" (formerly "Reach FM"), WXHL from Christiana, DE. With their network of translators and repeater stations they cover most of the metro area.

97.1 FM
PHILADELPHIA, PA

103.5 FM
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA

89.1 FM
WILMINGTON, DE

97.1 FM
MIDDLETOWN, DE

91.9 FM
MIDDLETOWN, DE

106.3 FM
DOVER, DE

96.9 FM
REHOBOTH, DE

100.3 FM
GEORGETOWN, DE

96.3 FM
SEAFORD, DE

88.3 FM (Class A FM station WVBH)
OCEAN COUNTY, NJ

95.3 FM
BRIDGETON, NJ

95.5 FM
WILDWOOD, NJ

WZZD tried the format for several years, then gave up to go the talk route. I don't believe there is a market for a new one.

Unfortunately, as a non-comm WXHL's ratings don't show for Wilmington's 12+ numbers, where the flagship station 89.1 Christiana, DE is located. I'm assuming the numbers are loyal listeners, but not high numbers. My guess is the same for the Philly/Del Co translators. As they are listener supported, as long as enough cash comes in, they're in business. Kind of a different ball game from the commercial stations.

DG: 1550 dropped ESPN when WPEN picked it up. It is now back to being WXHL-AM.

Your K-Love station on 89.5 on Cherry Hill, NJ reaches most of Philadelphia and some of the northern suburbs according to K-Love's web site. What needs to happen is K-Love needs to up their power so they can reach the suburbs. Yes K-Love is Contemporay Christian and is the only Contemporary Christian Station you will ever need.

Actually, Educational Media Foundation has a construction permit for changing WKVP antenna pattern to reduce interferance to WGLS and WRDV. From what I see is that this may be a little less power for a larger coverage area. It is awaiting approval from the FCC.

Ah yeah. i emailed the guys there and they saidhow does a little less power equal covering a larger coverage area?
As you drive thru bucks county it'll weaken and WRDV starts coming in at some point.
As far as power reach, radio-locator can be wrong.
It says WBYO is suppose to be a 1, but I never get it with my roophtop antenna.
WKVP in the car is pretty bad in Bensalem. As you drive along 95 it'll come in better till you reach downtown, once you get off I guess its all those buildings that play with the signal.
I believe its cotman avenue ware 97.1 translator for WXHL starts comeing in, but again those tall buildings block stuf down town too.

It is the same deal in New York with K-Love. They'll position it to cover most of the city's bouroughs and a good portion of NJ but you move into Long Island and the signal is not picked up if you travel down the island some ways.
