It's apparently too *hot* this winter for Hot AC 93.3CoastFM to go Christmas... So it looks like the torch has been passed to sister station B101... They're all-Christmas as of this morning! Looks like LiteRock is still just spinning the AC hits...

Yes B101's website looks very holly jolly too. This B101 flip was predicted as a possibility in another thread. Now it remains to be seen how this will affect ad dollars with the economy being what it is.

To me any Providence Clear Channel station going all Christmas is like the grinch showing up at your door and asking where his gift is.

Normally I don't mind early Christmas music. I like the holiday. I like to get things done early so there's no last minute stress to deal with. But driving yesterday and today in either rainy or cloudy weather with pretty mild temps I honestly got a negative impression hearing it. It just sounded stupid and can't help wondering if it will backfire this year.

It won't backfire this year. If a radio station starts playing Christmas music, it will continue until after Christmas Day. That's how it works.

Their PD Chris Duggan was on WPRI talking about doing it to bring some cheer into peoples' lives during these tough times. Gimme a break! I suppose he can't be honest about why they're doing it but only the most gullible would believe that.

I know this probably won't happen. Seeing they will flip to all holiday music soon. But seeing WWBB & The other stations in Boston
are now playing holiday music. Would WWLI tweak their format to go after WWBB/WROR listeners? Or keep the format as it is? Till the flip
to Xmas music?

I can guarantee you that WWLI will make the flip. They were talking about it this morning, and the fact that some people have requested it already. They even mentioned that 3 other stations on the dial are already doing it. So I can assure you that they WILL flip sometime before Thanksgiving. It could very well be within the next week or so.

The B101 website says Santa will be taking calls live every night at 6PM starting Monday. Given that by 6PM very few people on the talent end of the spectrum are even in the building I have to wonder who's playing Santa. Sorry if anyone reading this still believes in Santa.

The thing that always got me about stations looking for temporary bumps in numbers thanks to Christmas flips is that by the time the book reflects those numbers they're back to where they were with listenership before the holidays so ad buys are based on something that happened in the past. They're not realistic when it comes to present conditions. Sponsors are buying based on Christmas listenership that doesn't exist anymore.
