This weekend (July 29-30), WLTM Atlanta was playing Christmas music mixed in with it's regular playlist. I suspected a "Christmas in July" stunt. Are there any other stations in the country doing this?
Question now is when the all-Christmas calvelcade will begin. One station in Kansas last year started in early August.
Here in Atlanta WLTM, WSB-FM, and Salem Christian "Fish" WFSH have waited until the week of Thanksgiving to start their stunts (WLTM on Monday, WFSH Wednesday, WSB-FM Friday). Since WSB-FM sister WSRV (Classic Hits "97.1 the River", formerly WFOX) came on board and became a ratings darling (killing off WLTM and WSB-FM's ratings), I wonder if the ATL could be singing Jingle Bells as early as Halloween. I recall that WNIC Detroit and an Urban station in New Jersey(?) started their all-Christmas stunts around Halloween.
Will these stations show restraint this year, or will we be singing "Deck The Halls" on the beach this Labor Day weekend?
