CHRISTMAS 2010

Which station will be the first to flip to ALL Christmas Music? ... And how many Christmas Stations will there be in total serving the San Francisco Bay Area Market?

The first two likely candidates in my opinion....KOIT and KBAY!

Do you also think Clear Channel will flip one of their HD-2 Channels to All Christmas music?

Any thoughts?

I think last year KOIT HD-2 flipped to AC while KOIT was cristmas music. All joking aside, I guess 103.7 or 98.1 HD-2 could go all christmas music.

Geeesssshhhhhh. Is it Christmas season already. I haven't taken down my Labor Day lights and tree yet.

i still have my Festivus Pole up.

I hate to admit that I ever shop at the evil Satan of retailers - but I was in a WalMart store a couple of days ago. They're already playing Christmas music, Can KOIT be very far behind?

You're kidding, right? I didn't think WallyWorlds were even allowed in Frisco.
I thought Pelosi had them banned. ;D

I work in the East Bay, where WalMarts have been stragegically inserted about every second exit off I-880. I stop by occasionally when I have a hankering for cheap stuff made in China.

They're about to open a Lowe's Home Improvement in my San Francisco neighborhood. The way the lefties protested the evil "big box," you'd think the world had ended. When hell actually freezes over or pigs fly, you'll see a WalMart in SF. But Pelosi doesn't get involved. That's below her pay grade. ;D

Interestingly, Wal~Mart (they run it all together now, but Mr. Sam liked the squiggley, as he called it, so using that) is rolling out downsized stores just to be able to slip them into places like SF & NYC.

I noticed 96.5 KOIT HD-2 switched from oldies to Christmas tunes on Tuesday, Nov 2nd. I checked the previous day on Nov 1st and they were still playing oldies. Like last year, the regular lite rock format will move to HD-2 once Christmas takes over the main broadcast.

Nancy Pelosi, the closest equivalent to a hero we Friscans have in the federal government has more to do than legislate where WalMarts should go. Yes, there is an anti-WalMart attitude in SF. Also WalMart wanted to build a store in Brisbane, and I believe the locals in that small town don't want it either. WalMart is a category killer; they ruin business for hundreds of other retailers, pay horrible wages, and have been known to drive their suppliers out of business with unreasonable wholesale pricing demands.

But back to broadcasting...

From KOIT's email newsletter (sent out yesterday afternoon):

The days are getting shorter and there's a briskness in the air. It can only mean one thing - KOIT Christmas is almost here. We've already been getting phone calls and emails from listeners wondering when we're going to "flip the Christmas switch" and play all Christmas music! Remember, you can listen to KOIT Christmas online now at KOIT.com or if you have an HD radio, you can get it on KOIT HD2. Wow, A Sacramento Radio Station has beaten San Francisco's KOIT to play All-Christmas Music 24/7! Usually it is the other way. Yes, KOIT-HD2 plays All Christmas Music but KHLX-Classic 93.1 plays it on its main signal.

It appears that KOIT will go all-Xmas next Wednesday (Nov. 24).

Wow, with all this Cristmas Music I feel a sudden urge to go shopping :)
What was the first year KOIT went all cristmas? Were their ever any other bay stations that did All Cristmas, at least we aren't like Sacto with 4 cristmas stations

KOIT may have done it before then, but 2001 was the year that all-christmas became (a) widespread and (b) something that happened in November -- it was a post-9/11 thing, aimed at making people feel good (and not-so-coincidentally) making them want to shop. KFRC also went all-Xmas that year, tho' they stuck to songs and artists that fit their format, at least.

What 4 stations? In years past, it was three stations that went All Christmas EARLY. For several years, it was KGBY-92.5, KYMX-96.1 & KKFS-103.9. Then after KGBY changed formats from AC to Hot AC and CC introduced Classic Hits KHLX-93.1, then essentially KHLX replaced KGBY as the All Christmas Station.

In Fresno there's already 2 stations doing Christmas music, CCs KSOF 98.9 and Big Country KHGE 102.7 is doing a Country Christmas. KJWL 99.3 usually waits til Thanksgiving Day.
