CHRISTMAS(AND HALLOWEEN) MUSIC 2022!

Why wouldn't a station you'd program benefit from an all-Christmas format, when it has been proven to work over and over that it in almost every market? (exempting the "especially")
But does it work?....Yeah, ratings are bumped up for a few weeks, but in almost every case, the ratings in the month after Christmas end up less than the month before Christmas. Perhaps because P1's take off and never return.

But does it work?....

Yes. For stations that do it every year, they can charge exorbitant ad rates and even add more units, based on last years ratings, which are pretty much an indicator of what will happen in those weeks of the Christmas format.

More listeners = more revenue. Yes, it works.

Not true.

Why would P1's who like/love your station "take off"?

Worcester's WSRS is now Christmas. WMJX has not flipped as they are playing Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits at 0922 on 11-5

Although they're in the same TV market, Boston and Worcester are not in the same radio market (despite WSRS-96.1's huge signal), so the move by WSRS won't have any impact whatsoever on when WMJX-106.7 plans to flip.

However, should WROR-105.7 (or anyone else in the Boston radio market) go all-Christmas before WMJX does, that move would impact WMJX and likely result in their going all-Christmas as soon as possible (maybe within minutes) after WROR (or anyone else in the market) doing so.

We'll have to see when Magic flips. I'm seeing stations like Star 92.9 Burlington VT and 3WS Pittsburgh are Christmas or will change. There's WSRS as was said.
No "WBOQ 104.9" Christmas this year as they are now WNKC with K-Love.. I think there is some kind of streaming all Christmas from EMF.
Quick search--looks like Magic went all Christmas Nov 21 of last year.
At one point stations flipped not long after Election Day/ Veterans Day. WODS when it was oldies/"greatest hits" did all Christmas as did classic hits WROR. 103.3 now Big variety hits...and current owner Audacy has control of WMJX.
(Star 92.9 facebook:"Happy Holidays from Star 92.9! We ARE your Christmas Music Station! VT/NY/NH & Montreal")

WWSW in Pitt. opts for a "preview weekend" then full-on by next Fri. Their facebook:
"It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas! 94.5 3WS is Pittsburgh’s #1 Christmas Music station! We’ll be presenting a Christmas Music preview weekend starting this Friday at 5 pm. Then get ready for 24/7 Christmas music starting Friday, November 18th through #Christmas Day!!!"

If they (WMJX-106.7) don't flip tonight then they will next Friday @ 5

Or maybe sometime between this evening (November 11th) and next Friday (November 18th).

Or maybe sometime between this evening and early December.

I actually thought WMJX would have gone all-Christmas well before this. Maybe they would have flipped by now if they got wind that a competitor would go all-Christmas, in which case they would flip before the competitor did.

If RKO played christmas music weekdays from 6 to 10am, would it improve ratings?

Today (November 14th), I happened to be listening to WMJX-106.7 and afternoon personality Karen Blake announced they would be going all-Christmas this Friday (November 18th) at 5 P.M.

Of course, they would have gone earlier if someone else in the market was going to go all-Christmas sooner than that.

I forget what MJX do with their SAT. night '80s show. Does that go on hiatus?

A simple google search provides the information on Joe

Beats guessing!

It may go to WMJX HD-2 with their regular AC format music through Christmas.

WMJX HD-2 plays Christmas music 24/7 year 'round, except during the season when the Christmas music switches to WMJX analog and HD-1, their usual AC format music moves to the HD2 for that duration, though jockless. Don't know if they would have the '80s show, with Joe, move to the HD2 until Christmas, but I recall that Joe's show was on a Boston area HD-2 subchannel only (of the former WBMX 104.1, now WWBX) for a period some years ago.
