Christmas at the Big One ! ho ho ho

Christmas at the Big One ! ho ho ho

Driving home Sunday night listening to WLW 700 Radio ( Christmas Music ) some chick is doing the breaks and from 8:13pm to 8:16pm ( 3 very long 50,000 watt
minutes their is dead air ) The Grand Old Lady of Broadcasting , The Big One , The Flag-Ship of Clear Channel and the list goes on and on as Daryl Parks rides the
Grand Funk Railroad train up the steep hill saying over and over I think I can , I think I can ---- WLW Radio as compared to other 50KW stations is STILL THE LITTLE
TRAIN that " Can't " ..... make it up the mountain . ( 180 seconds of Non-CLear Channel broadcasting to 28 - 38 states in the propaganda with "No millions on hold
or want to be on hold anymore " the Little Train that can't . Choo Choo , bye bye Daryl ; take your Toy Train and go home please .

Re: Christmas at the Big One ! ho ho ho

It happens, even to the best stations. I assume since they had the young lady doing breaks that there must have been a live body in the house. I'm surprised they didn't have a back up cd or something to air while whatever the problem was got fixed. I know if I was on duty and one or more signals died, one station may have suffered while the others were re-booted or whatever. And if it was a young person, an FM got attention before an AM did if multiple stations were down.

Re: Christmas at the Big One ! ho ho ho

WLW has a nightime news anchor who's newscasts are a complete trainwreck... Barbara Cain has a pleasant enough voice, but her knack for calamity is absolutely shocking. Sometimes, the news sounder runs completely out before she cracks the mic. Now, my question as a PD would be, what in the hell are you DOING that's more important when the news intro comes on? There's rarely, if ever, a newscast where she doesn't hit the wrong sound cut, sounder, liner, promo, whatever. Her recorded cuts on WKRC are better, but I shudder to think how many "takes" are required to record them. I only wish I had tape rolling over the summer when severe weather struck, and she went into full blown panic. Classic! One of the other anchors (Bill Reinhart, I think) had to come in during the night and take over. Sheesh!

When did this kind of amatuerish, low quality, newscast become acceptable on a station like WLW? And please, don't tell me "it's better than no local news at all" because that is a crock.

I often wonder how Jack Crumley can simultaneously be doing the news on WTVN and WLW at the same time. That's some fancy footwork.

Are you sure she's not out on a server somewhere? Do they even bother to update, or do they just run the same thing over and over again?

Let's not forget that Barbara Cain was in Television News before going to WLW. She was a reporter for WLWT for a number of years before going to WLW.

DP hasn't been in charge over there at 700 WLW for quite a while. You need to keep up with your 700 WLW org chart. 700 WLW is indeed an instrument of its' own destruction, but 700 WLW has a new leader these days.

And because she was on TV, that excuses all of her on-air blunders, mis-cues, and inability to work the equipment on WLW? ???

Re: Christmas at the Big One ! ho ho ho

Hell, at least there IS someone at WLW overnights when news or severe weather breaks out...unlike automated WHAS ::)

Is Parks still doing the Saturday morning show? If so, then why? I'm usually at work during this time.

ROFL!!!! I heard Barbara Cain's "severe weather coverage" over the summer. She couldn't handle it. One of the daytime anchors had to come in and bail her out. ::) Hysterical! Listened to her last night too - Still awful.

Since I didn't hear her coverage, can you tell me if it was a matter of personal stress where she couldn't vocalize the information, or more of an equipment error where she couldn't operate the system?

Either way I'm getting a clear view of a female Les Nessman. Remember Mother Nessman?

Watch out for those monster lizzards!

I heard her for the first time on 610 last night (simultaneously with 700) and she sounded alright. Jordan Rowe, however, has no business anchoring the news.

I'm not defending her ability to run a board or broadcast. Just saying that maybe the day you were listening was a not so good day at the studio for broadcasting... everyone has an off day broadcasting... equipment doesn't always work the way it is supposed to as well.

I was listening to WLW tonight and yeah, Cain isn't very good. She stumbled over several of her words and accidentally gave the wrong time for the next newscast. She still got all the information out and I'm sure she's a nice person and everything, but she sounds like she needs some polishing up.

That was probably one of her better nights.
She's been there a year, and has NOT improved. She was trained by Matt Demchek (sp?) a couple of months later, Matt disappeared from WLW.

As to the comments about Jordan Rowe, to me, he sounds like a young guy trying to break into the news business. He needs to pick up the pace a bit, and does sound young, but really, we should be glad that someone his age even gives a s*** about the business of radio. I would far rather hear a "green" sounding news anchor (who will improve over time) then somebody with a long resume' and years of experience who can't ad-lib, multi-task, and hyper-ventilates during severe weather.
