It's a quarter to christmas. Snow is lightly falling in Tampa Bay as we send this out to the Boss Jocks, and Good Guys, and all those voices in the night who have gone to the big gig in the sky. Good night to Alan, and Murray, and Clark, and Dave, and John R.,and Art,and Bill, and Lee, and Bwana, and B.Mitchell, and Robert W, and the Real one, and the two Jims, and all of you where there are still 7 shifts a day and the music just keeps on comin!

I won't forget you. you all live in my heart til I hear you again.

Nicely said. MsMusic, whoever you may be, you certainly have a love for the business. Reminds of "old school" people that worked along side me "back in the day".

I remember when the WYRE calls were moved from 1080 in Pennsylvania to Maryland. Maybe I heard you when I was in Baltimore with CORE.

Worked at WYRE 65-70. Started as a HS Senior! Weekends then afternoon drive, MD, PD. Great guys owned the station. Marvin Mirvis, Erny Tannen, and Carl Marcocci. It was WABW when they bought it. Had a format way ahead of it's time. Sort of Drake before Drake! Unheard of at that time. No news and music intensive with some really great jocks. Jack Alix, Bob Canada, Barry Richards, Marcocci (as Jack Armstrong), Freddy King (Klein), and many more that should be mentioned. Kirby Scott (Confer) came aboard later on. My name in those days was Ron Rondo.

Gee, almost forgot another great talent that came through WYRE. Dennis Constantine. One of the nicest human beings one could ever meet. Dennis used to call me when he was a kid and claim that one day he would work in the biz at YRE. Dennis eventually became the PD after my departure and went on to be one of the real good ones!

I think these guys were following me around. Jack Alix and Bob Canada turned up in Richmond Va when I lived there. Bob was on WLEE. I listened to him every morning at breakfast and Jack Alix did his Rock'n'Roll Roots on WGOE among other stations.

Carl ( Jack Armstrong) was on WEEP when I was a kid( with Perry Marshall and Tony Graham) that later became WYRE then back to WEEP .
He recently passed away here in Tampa. He was the owner of WGUL and WJQB among other stations. It is a small world. I remember the four way battle of Clark Race on KDKA, Ravin Dave Scott on KQV, Perry Marshall and Jack Armstrong on WEEP, and Porky Chedwick on WAMO. Porky now lives here in Tarpon Springs.

Never thought I'd hear Charlie Van Dyke again either. IT IS A SMALL WORLD

Charlie Van Dyke has been the voice guy for Fox 13 and bay news 9 for years...where have you been? As for JoJo Kincaid, that video is from over 20 years ago at Q106 a station that at the time was owned by Edens which also owned Q105, which also blew it up in 1990, and is being blown up again in 2008. Only this time it's CBS. Sorry to bust your bubble but the guy in charge at CBS Tampa doesn't have a clue on how to do great radio. When he was hired by CBS for their Detroit station WOMC they were tied at #11...by the time he was fired by CBS at WOMC they were #15...nice movement, only not in the direction that I think CBS was wanting him to take it. Now he'll take a station that was #6 25-54, #3 35-64 and #5 12 plus right down the tubes. And who does a Top 500 countdown and makes you wait 30 minutes to find out what number song your on? Oh, that right...the lights are on...but nobodys home...better get used to that. They are cutting everything they can, to make it lean and mean so CBS can sell the cluster...that's right...it's on the block...but don't tell anyone, it's suppose to be a secret.

oh well. Guess Charlie doesn't sound the same on Bay news 9. I guess if JOJO was hyper 20 years ago, then we will see. I was hyper 20 years ago too. Randy Kabrich I believe claimed that Scott Walker took WOMC to number one. How would I know. in another time and place, somebody would have picked up the people let go by CBS. It appears from the current ownership policy that nobody will. I think all of them could do a lot for COX radio. AND THEY HAVE THE VACANT SPACES. If Q is worse, then I retract my enthusiasm. It sounds like it will be good, but then I didn't see the problem with the old version. And there was another female JOJO doing traffic on the Great 8 in Detroit.

If Scott Walker took WOMC to #1...why was he fired to begin with...and someone should check and see why he was also fired from the station Jacksonville for a ...how should I put it....HR problem. Had he not lied on his application to CBS at WOMC, they never would have hired him to begin with, much less bring him to Tampa Bay. Last I heard, lying on an application was grounds for dismissal anyway. It'll be interesting to see how long he last.

I listened to nothing but Q105 for the last few years. When TOP 40 radio began, many of the jocks on stations like KQVAND WABCwere MOR jocks. Think Joe O'Brien on WMCA, Henry DaBecco on KQV, and Herb Oscar Anderson on WABC. Whatever CBS has planned for Q sounds like a second generation Drake station ( or seems to so far). Whether this puts Q over the top of whomever is number one 25-54 I presume is up in the air. Again, I meant no offense with the MOR term. Sorry

duely noted and none taken. I was never an MOR jock, I've done Country, Rock, Top 40 and Classic Hits(Oldies). And I've worked with alot of the people named on these boards and at alot of the stations named on these boards, but what CBS did to those people less than a week before Christmas is unheard of and down right dirty. These people have families and have busted their ass for CBS for years for very little pay and no promotional money at all. Every rating point that was earned was through shere talent. Q105 never had the promotional buget that WQKY or WSJT Or Wild had. We were never given anything...we did it because we loved our jobs and the place where we lived and we loved our listeners. To be fired less than a week before Christmas for no reason except to make your mark on a station is just a bit to much to swallow and not be alittle bit bitter about. Scott Walker did the same thing at WOMC. Fired 4 long time jocks just to put his mark on the station. Just like here, he never even gave them a chance. If you don't believe me...look up WOMC on Wicopeaidia (Spelling) it's not one of my strong points.LOL I'm much better when I speak, Ive been doing it for a living ever since 1976.

Thank you. Many stations, especially in the old Group W chain made the conversion from MOR (now AC ) to TOP 40 with the same jocks. Art Pallan and Bob Tracey were the last people you would expect to thrive on KDKA when it went TOP 40------but they did. I don;t think anybody thinks the CBS move showed any class or decency. It was just expected that Q would become an auto-pilot off the bird like WSJT.The enthusiasm was only because it isn't yet. I was also let go as "too old" after 30 years with a big city Social Service Dept. up north. So I went through this twice . I can only say good luck and I hope you are young and healthy enough to work again.

As a sales person there, I can verify that big time! I had to go out, create third party giveaways to try to entice listeners to show up at remotes. And while you might say, "isnt that part of the job?" Yes it was but the other stations had the third party giveaways already in house via the Promotions department, saving sales people much time and effort so they could "sell."
