Do not adjust your monitor, you read right. WMJJ Magic 96.5 has already begun its yearly format switch to all Christmas through December 26. A poll was taken by the listeners and it was a unanimous vote that Christmas music begin right now. I myself am glad to see it![tt ;D]

Are they still using the "our gift to you - Christmas music - 24 hours a day" crap? I could listen online and puke, but why
waste it? FTR, Magic 96, as a regular station IS the worst station in America. Congratulations on ruining what is
otherwise a decent city. Urge everyone to call the FCC. This is probably the one good reason for the Fairness Doctrine
to return.

It seems the Christmas bonanza starts earlier every year. I guess Magic figured they better get started early, before WYDE decided to do some Christmas festivities of their own again as they did with the last format flop...oh wait...format flip. :D

Truth be told --- Christmas music has an extremely short shelf life. Maybe three weeks max.
I am not sure it's 100% right to kick it in on or just after Thanksgiving for that reason.
But, MJJ may be shooting themselves in the foot starting nearly 2 months out! My guess is
they may well tweak their sound. I know they sort of have worn their welcome out in the
12+ numbers. I am not sure how they do in the top female demos, probably very solid,
but they're going to burn some listeners as it gets closer to Christmas and the revenues
increase. This may be a long shot that won't be heard until trying to sell spots next year.
Are they hurting more than anyone else in sales? Something is a bit out there for me on this
early of a flip.

The new PD had to do something to get some press and get noticed. Have to feed the ego. Christmas music was a safe bet.
Can you imagine the high level meetings that took place with the PD, GM, GSM, RVP, RVPP, RVPPP, EVP, EVPP, EVPPP, FOP, FDIC, etc.
Many breathless discussions were probably held to determine the exact date and time to roll out Burl Ives for the 60th year.
You know they didn't spend any money on it.
NEW PD: "I think we should roll out Christmas music on Friday, the 31st. Just imagine the press we would get!
GM: "Better get it approved upstream, call Tom, Karen, John and Mark."
NEW PD: "We'll can get some new liners cut by our voice guy in Sugarland."
GM: "Better check with your RVP, RVPP, EVP, EVPP and the FOP for that one."
NEW PD: "We'll have the competition sucking wind..."

And the band played on.
I'll just shuffle my new Ipod and program the 6 christmas songs I like.

Maybe the new PD will be long gone by Christmas and not have to suffer through the
music overplay. Then again, when does anyone listen to their own stations anymore?

We all know the country is over bringing Christmas merchandise on July 5th. You'd thinl
k someone in radio would have a little heart at give it no more than 3 or 4 weeks. Hell,
it's 80 degrees outside this week. Geez.Doesn't make sense. Do you think this will
help their ratings this early. Oh, never mind. It is B-hams Family Fun Station...
