Christmas flips

How about a thread where we can post when our local Christmas stations go AC...will be interesting to see how early this crazy stuff starts.

One of my AC stations sounds like they're about to do it this afternoon.

I had a scare last week when a newspaper headline said WRAL-FM Raleigh, NC was going all-Christmas 24/7. Reading the article, though, I found out it was only at Thanksgiving.

As of yesterday at 2 PM, WKQC, WLYT and WMAG in NC were normal. These are all stations notorious for switching early.

Down the road in Greenville it looks like WMYI and WSPA are about to flip the switch, but it isn't clear as to when, but they are teasing it so it can't be far.

WTRV/Grand Rapids
KCKC/Kansas City

have both been all-Christmas for a little while at least.

WTRY (98.3) and WBZZ (105.7) have both switched formats in Albany on November 1, and WROW (AM 590) is probably not far behind (part of me was expecting WYJB to flip) =)

Although it's normal for Magic and WTRY to do Christmas, WBZZ's Christmas format seems more stunty in that they rebranded the entire station as "Santa 105.7"... which is why I'm speculating that it'll be a WFLY competitor in the future (I'll roll tape at and around midnight on December 26 =D)

As I mentioned in my post "Christmas Creep on November 1", WTRV switched on November 1. :(

Colorado Springs 106.3 flipped already....too soon! Wait til Black Friday to begin.

This station has been losing the A/C race to Citadel's Peak this year so I suppose they're hoping for a little extra holiday bump this year.

A hot AC station was the first to flip here in Cleveland this year: Clear Channel's WMVX/106.5 "Mix 106.5".

Traditional Christmas music stalwart WDOK/102.1 "Soft Rock 102.1" (CBS Radio) is apparently going to flip next week. The Countdown to Continuous Christmas Music on their website indicates they'll flip early next Friday morning.

That's pretty cool that the station actually tells listeners when it will happen. Most stations leave it a big mystery until it finally happens.

105.7 WOOD in Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids' own Christmas stalwart) flipped to all-Christmas today. Kinda funny that the competitor station WTRV 100.5 flipped 11 days ago.

Classic Hits KHLX-"Classic 93.1" Pollock Pines/Sacramento, CA switched on Friday November 12. Six days earlier than last year.

It indeed looks like there are a lot of CC stations on the early list.

I'm not at all suggesting corporate mandate, but maybe their top programming folks think there's an advantage to kicking into holiday music early.

100.7 WLEV in Allentown, PA flipped on Saturday, Nov. 13th. And "Magic" 98.3 WMGQ in New Brunswick, NJ is running promos saying they'll flip on this Friday, Nov. 19th.
