Christmas game on

And the winner is .... Star 102.5 around 8 this morning. Followed within a half hour by WJYE. :p

If Star hadn't gone today, WJYE would probably have flipped tomorrow at 7pm by using the Delilah Christmas show, which is what they did last year. WJYE was first last year at 7pm the Friday before Thanksgiving followed by Star at 8am the next day.

So once again it's all Christmas .... all the time. Guess I'll be tuning into WHTT and Jack more.

What's scary is that apparently there are thousands of listeners in Buffalo alone who enjoy hearing wall to wall Christmas music now till 12/25 - time to go to Walmart and give corporate America your money.

Here's a thought: somebody should commission some soft rock* songwriters and singers to record original music for every holiday. On 1/2 you could switch over to all an all Groundhogs Day format.

*if it's soft, it ain't rock

This could save Jack for another book, although I have to admit I thought it would go Xmas as well. Pretty much assures, though, that WHTT won't air more than a few holiday oldies an hour at most, all the way to the end of the year. Whew.

What's interesting, is that AFAIK we haven't yet seen any Rochester station flip to all-holiday musicm, at least not as of this morning. Anyone hear any rumblings about who (if anyone) will? My money's on Fickle 93.3, which has been an early Christmas music outlet for several years now and had a down book recently--therefore, has less to lose by breaking format.

Ho-ho-ho'ing out the Holidays

Retail outlets will be tuning in, and offices will be tuning out. JYE seems to be softer than Star in their song selection.

I doubt that I'll be punching the 96.1 or 102.5 button before Dec. 23rd. Then again, I'm not a 25-54 year old female.

I guess that I'll be listening to the WHTT announcement Saturday morning, and hoping that Celine Dionne isn't coming to their playlist. Otherwise, it's 97-Rock, Jack, and The Lake.

Speaking of The Lake, can you PLEASE put an end to the FREAKIN' CRICKETS? The minute they start, I can't hit the button fast enough to get off the station.

My wife is the demo... not me...

Mid 30s educated white female from the burbs....No sh(*&(!... she has the Carpenters Christmas CD in the car already....

I acknowledge the pure corporate motives for this; it leads to holiday listening on the way to the mall, the retail stores tuning in to create the perfect holiday mood. Happened to wander in the Rand building on Tuesday and heard rumblings of Thursdays move.

WHTT, The edge, and even Jack is on the pre-sets.

Despite our conjecture, it's likely both Star and WJYE will do well with wall to wall Christmas. It's the last four weeks of the Fall book. The variable this year will be the performance of Jack and WHTT. WHTT sounds more 80's centric than ever and is more AC oriented than ever. Would it surprise anybody if WHTT took even greater advantage of the situation by expanding its library? I'm surprised WYRK hasn't been mentioned as a beneficiary as well as Jack and WHTT.
