Christmas in Connecticut 2012

Hi Guys. That time is right around the corner. OK. What CT station will be ringing those Christmas bells first this time on the air with their 24/7 holiday format?

WRCH or Star99.9 or maybe a surprise.

Does anybody know.

Star 99.9 doesn't do Christmas any more. They're a HOT AC-CHR hybrid. WBMW 106.5 is always the first CT station to do the Christmas thing. The question is who will be first in Hartford WRCH 100.5 or WDRC 102.9? I for one thought WDRC did a better job with Christmas Music last year than WRCH did.

On another WDRC 102.9 note, has anyone else noticed an annoying whistling noise underneath the music lately? It isn't there all the time, but I've noticed it ever since the hurricane a few weeks ago.

A nice subtle reminder of a station I won't listen to for an entire month! Granted, WRCH-FM isn't even a preset on any of my radios anyways! Oh well! Last time I checked, I wasn't a White Rich Connecticut Housewife, the audience they obviously cater to (I'm white myself, just for the record).

As for the whistle noise on WDRC-FM? You are correct, Marc. In fact, it's even more prevalent when listening to all your music in headphones, especially when there are quiet passages.

I don't really know who WRCH is targeting these days. They're playing some really out there stuff lately.

Bad Romance/Poker Face - Lady Gaga
Dynamite - Taio Cruz
California Gurls - Katy Perry (The version without Snoop-Dogg)
I Got a Feeling - Black Eyed Peas

Those 5 obviously being borrowed from their sister stations - Bad Romance, Poker Face, I GoT Feeling, and California Gurls are all played on 96.5 TIC. Dynamite is played on both HOT 93.7 and 96.5 TIC.

The way they've been going lately I'm surprised WRCH isn't playing Gangum Style. :p

They ought to just rebrand the station Fresh 100.5 and be done with it.

RCH is still one of the lightest AC stations in New England. Oh, and they're still the top billing station in CT, something like 15 years in a row. They're targeting the same listeners they always have, and they've changed the music to reflect the changing music tastes of that demo.

I always liked WRCH .They do play a good mix of light tunes of all music genders. Alot of offices I have been in have them for background music.I agree the station always have high numbers along with Country 92.5. I did not know that Star 99.9 went HOT AC-CHR hybrid. probably because I have not tuned them in ages.Yes WDRC had a background whine but it now sounds clean here on my system.Yes I did enjoy WDRC's Christmas tunes .Now I notice that the River 105.9 slogan "We Play Anything" which reminds me of the JackFM slogan.

That's kind of like WLTW in NYC. They play way too many CHR type songs that are hardly "Lite". It's like there is some unwritten rule that all NYC radio stations have to have some level of CHR leaning music. Very annoying.

Rhythmic/urban is a must if you want to get the NYC audience.

I always have liked that WTIC goes to Christmas music from around 3 PM on December 24th to midnight the 26th.
It's like: Peace on Earth, good will to all.
The bad stuff can wait.

God bless them, every one! :)

Was on Yes.com earlier this morning to see when/how stations segued from Christmas music back to regular music... I noticed that the playlist on WRCH was virtually the same playlist as WWDE/Norfolk. Check the last couple of hours of music for WRCH this morning from 3-5 AM and WWDE yesterday from 9-11 PM (yes, Virginia, Christmas ended an hour early this year :-X ).

Delilah runs overnight on WRCH and nights on WWDE...

As WRCH is on 24/7 in my Mom's house they are back to their normal music format, however they're still mixing in holiday music.

DRC-FM went all Christmas some time on Monday.

KICKS 105.5 was running a syndicated all Country Christmas program.

96.5 was airing a Top 60 Christmas song Countdown hosted by Casey Casem yesterday.

Heard "Mr. Grinch" played on WKSS 95.7, ironic considering people refer to Clear Channel as a Grinch.

Variety Hits formated The River 105.9 was play all Christmas music yesterday.

Saturday 12/15 was my day off. I was out and about Christmas Shopping and helping my mom get ready for her Christmas party and while dial spinning I heard a hard rock version of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" on 106.9 The Rock WCCC-FM.

WJMJ 88.9 was playing a lot of Christmas songs too over the past week or so including "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth" by Spike Jones.

Also doing all Christmas on Tuesday (yesterday) were WROW 590, WOR 710, WGY 810, WELI 960, WTIC 1080, WQUN 1220, and WATR 1320. (I was able to pick up all these out of market stations on my Walkman). They had an old taped Ed Henry Polka Christmas special on WLIS/WMRD during the 10AM hour yesterday. I don't know how old it was but the show mentioned that Saturday Night was going to be New Years Eve.

I end up recording the the last 40 hours of WRCH Xmas for the heck of it on my digital recorder.

I did notice that Delilah continued with the Xmas tunes until her shift was done and the late night automation or crew continued playing Xmas tunes until the morning crew went on the air.

I remember a couple years ago WRCH stopped with the Xmas tunes at midnight sharp.

Thanks MarcB for the updates.

It was great hearing Casey Kasems Top 60 Christmas song Countdown again.

I listen to Casey Kasem on TIC Sunday mornings. I wish they can run the 4 hour version instead of lopping off the first hour.

I forgot to tune in Country 92.5 in to see what they were playing. They probably run a country Christmas tunes show.

Did it consist of the syndicated "Christmas Across The Lands" program and/or Rush Limbaugh's "EIB Christmas Show", or were these all local playlists?
