Christmas is coming again!

I believe NOW 97.5 FM set the record two years ago for the earliest introduction of the ALL Christmas Format in the Philadelphia Market. I believe they debuted the ALL Christmas Music format, October 31, 2008 at 5:00 pm. ... Now as you know 97.5 no longer exists - no pun intended.

Which station will be the first to flip to ALL Christmas Music? ... And how many Christmas Stations will there be in total serving the Philly Market?

The first two likely candidates> WJBR & B 101

The format reached a saturation point at the Jersey Shore last year with at least SIX STATIONS going all Christmas... Word through the Grapevine is one of the stations, LIFT FM has decided to drop the all Christmas format as their new morning show is extremely popular.

WBEB is a question of when, not if.

WISX and WOGL are the interesting questions. Was it last year that WOGL flipped and the ratings were lower than the month before?

If CBS is planning to flip WYSP to some female-friendly format, all-Christmas on November 1 would be one way to do it (and if they did, that would obviously mean WOGL isn't flipping).

We've heard the Ben refrain before...not sure it makes any more sense this year than it did last year.

Josh, you do know that you work there, right?

And that we all know you work there?

And that this board has a "see previous posts by this user" function that allows us to see where you've told us you work there?

Just checking... ;D

I got all of you beat......181.FM and Live 365 are already playing christmas music. All year round. 12 months a year. Merrrrry Christmas everybody.

Perhaps 97.5 or its HD2 might flip again. They could even re-use their Phillies imaging since it looks like the Phillies may win the World Series again this year. Gotta love how NOW 97.5 justified their all-Christmas format on Halloween by quoting the Philadelphia mayor saying that "Christmas came 2 months early to Philadelphia"

It doesn't really matter how many stations flip to all Christmas. B101 is known as THE Christmas music station in Philadelphia. They'll be #1, without a doubt, whenever they decide to flip.

If it's B101 and another station doing all Christmas in November, WBEB will get a 15-something 6+. If there two stations going against B101, they'll get a 14-something 6+. Even if WOGL flips, WBEB will still dominate the holiday book.

Sunny 104.5 was the original Christmas station in Philly, not B101.

I really preferred the variety of Sunny 104.5 and Now 97.5's Christmas music to B101.

I am with Nick on this one B101 sucks at there Christmas music mix!!!! Sunny 104.5 had the best and Now 97.5's was very good I hope they put it back on 97.5 HD-2 again this year.

Sunny or Now vs the B's approach is nothing more than personal preferences. Saying "Sunny was better" no more makes it a matter of "fact" than saying "the B is better with their music." What matters is the factual, bottom-line results, and those are what they are, like it, hate it or somewhere in between.

Exactly. Just like some think POWER 99 is better than 100.3 The Beat and some think 100.3 The Beat is better than POWER 99. Personally during my last trip to King of Prussia I was flipping back and forth between the two (and Wired).

So did you form an opinion of which one you liked better? (None of them are ones I ever listen to.)

If Clear Channel had one more Philly station, I'm sure Sunny 104.5 would have stayed. They were making money all year with very low expenses, and made a killing every holiday season.

So they would have needed to be the second-least viable property in the cluster, essentially? :)

I like to hear the traditional Christian Christmas Carol. I feel some stations play too much of Winter Wonderland, and other pseudo non-Christ Christmas songs... Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Wonderful Christmas Time, Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.. etc.. I remember listening to one particular station for more than an hour and never heard one song about Christ. josh
