Christmas is flowing in Hartford

WRCH-100.5 would be better suited as an all-Christmas station because it normally is a Soft AC, and most stations that do go all-Christmas are Soft AC's. It's been said there's some overlap in the music and a lot of overlap in target demos between these formats.

WHCN-105.9, based on it's playlist as published on Yes.com, flipped at 6 A.M. this morning (November 25th).

WHCN-105.9 is A Christmas Channel (Clear Channel) Property, and CC is the most agressive company regarding programming all-Christmas formats. It seems to be a corporate directive that one of the company's stations in every market does this, although they do not have an all-Christmas station in Boston, one of their few markets where they don't have one (WXKS-107.9 is top-40/CHR; WJMN-94.5 is Urban/Rhythmic CHR, and WXKS-1430, which used to go all-Christmas when it programmed standards, now runs Air America programming).

BTW, WHCN's website has the "All-Christmas" look.

Could WRCH still follow suit??

WHCN (according to on air announcements) is AC just for this weekend "to get us in the holiday mood." Normal programming returns Monday

WRCH has no intention of going All Christmast until 12PM December 24 like they do every year. The exception is for the Holiday Shopping Special which is airing every Satuday and Sunday 12PM-5PM. My mother is a memeber of the WRCH Listener's Club.

> WHCN (The River) is all x-mas...though x-mas day? not sure

It was supposed to be Christmas music throughout the entire weekend, but it looks like no one told WHCN that Sunday is part of the weekend. I woke up with the sound of Aerosmith singing Sweet Emotion on my radio this morning.

how early did you hear it? maybe they're doing christmas songs between 9am and 5pm or something?

There is no such "corporate directive," Joseph. CC doesn't program that way. There are plenty of CC markets where they're not doing Christmas, even ones like Syracuse and Cleveland where they have AC stations that would be natural candidates. <P ID="signature">______________

Scott:

I didn't say that Clear Channel had a corporate directive on all-Christmas formats. I wrote that "It seems to be a corporate directive" given that so many of CC's stations go all-Christmas.

If all these decisions are being made locally, a lot of local program directors at CC stations must be gung-ho about this format.

I heard it too. The River OverEasy. Later on they were back to XMAS Music. Not sure why they didn't pre-empt this show like they pre-empted John Tesh Friday Night.

The Christmas music returned at Noon. from what I heard of the voice tracking there was no mention of the XMAS weekend whatsoever, almost like someone ran the wrong show this morning.
