Christmas @ KZZP Song

Thanks! I love the idea of sharing airchecks via Sendspace.

Around 11:06 on the aircheck, Valerie Knight (?) gave out the phone number for "Make it or Break it" as 260-6404. Was this the primary station number given out over the air, or a special number just for this purpose? If it was the former, when did it become 260-1047?

Interesting that KZZP's slogan was "The #1 Hit Music Station"...and here we are two decades later with two stations claiming to be "The Valley's #1 Hit Music Station".

EDIT: The comments above (and directly below) are in reference to the 1987 composite aircheck posted at http://www.sendspace.com/file/3zmlmb - not the Christmas one.

I tried to add the following to my original post, but the time limit for edits had already passed...

At 11:15, there is a jingle that says "A Better Mix of Music". Was this used alongside "The #1 Hit Music Station", or is it a slogan they adopted in later years?

I remember that Y95 also used "A Better Mix of Music" for the last year or so of its existence.

I'm pretty sure that 260-6404 was the regular KZZP Boss Line early on.

Something that's been buried in the depths of my brain for years wants to say
that originally, all the assigned numbers in the blowout/choke/HVCI exchange
were 260-6XXX. That goes back to at least the early 70s as one heard on the
Todd "August Bus" Wallace KRUX 'check on Bootleg Top 40--"260-6881 Phoenix
and 253-1745 toll free" (having the two numbers is another story in itself).

The phone suffix restriction apparently still existed into the 80s or later, but at
some point it was eliminated, as stations could then request anything that would
"spell" their frequency, calls, etc. I'm not sure why Ma Bell couldn't open
the 260 exchange to any 260-XXXX number from the get go, as it was unique
to high-volume call-in use by (primarily) radio and TV.

6404 allowed listeners to vote yes / no on song of the day

i can send lots of 97-98 kzzp material anyone willing to transfer from cassette and upload

kzzp tribute webpage perhaps

The 260-6404 number was the request line from 84 to about 1987 when it got changed to 260-1047..The phone company said that 1047 wasn't available before then.

Either way, please send me a private message...I can get this material online.
