Christmas Music Already on the air

KEZK I csn see, but why is 103.3 doing it? They are just gettting the ratings up. The could have been the station listeners turn to if they don't want solid Christmas music. Very Strange on Clear Channels part

Strange, yes, but not unusual...

As for who flipped first? Definitely KEZK. Yes.com shows they played Train's "Calling All Angels" at 10 AM on Sunday. Next song listed on the log is Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" at 10:15 AM. So sometime around then. KLOU's music log is silent from noon until around 10 PM. I believe they are the flagship station of the St. Louis Rams, and they had a 4 PM ET game yesterday (that went into overtime) so my guess is KLOU caught wind of what KEZK was doing and decided to flip the switch when they were done with the Rams game.

KLOU has really been amping up promoting itself as a Christmas station the past few weeks, I think it is a big money maker for the radio industry. My guess is that if they didn't flip the same time as KEZK did, KLOU was worried that those who did want to listen to Christmas music would turn to KEZK, and leaving KLOU out in the cold in terms of attracting Christmas music listeners.

(sorry for the bad pun)

KLOU lost the Rams flagship to WXOS in 2009.

Looking at yes.com, the earliest sign of Christmas music on KLOU seems to be Dan Fogelberg's Same Old Lang Syne at 1:19 am Sunday morning. The earliest sign of Christmas music on KEZK seems to be John Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over) at 9:00 pm Saturday night.

Now that I think about it, my conspiracy theory doesn't hold water given the time the initial post was posted. My bad!

no honestly i thought cc would have flipped 100.3 to christmas music agian hows gen x doing in the ratings ?

100.3 is still around? (I kid)

But let me put it this way, they're doing worse in the ratings than the gospel on KATZ-AM.

Why is it so bad? It's one of my favorite stations. I know tons of people in St. Louis listening to this station everyday! Why would it be that bad?

To be honest I never really think about it because it's never promoted. It's hard to bring listeners to a station when you do absolutely nothing to promote it (especially when it's a new format). But then again, this is CC we're talking about.

That and maybe it encroaches too much on The Arch's territory and possibly Gen X is losing as a result?

As I said I really don't listen to the station so I can't really say.

I'll agree, CC has no idea how to promote a station. But the Gen X Format can do well against the arch simply because of the hip hop aspect. the arch would never play that.

When I lived in St. Louis, I spent the entire time listening to Gen X from when it came on to August when I moved away.

The only thing I disliked about CC's Gen X vs Entercom's (KC) was how little of a playlist they have. I mean come on guys, this isn't 1998. Let's build a real playlist of songs. Gen X 99.7 before it was wrongly taken away had such a variety of hits that It was never repetitive.

I guess CC just doesn't get it
