Christmas music fills the Charlotte air

K104.7 and Lite 102.9 have kicked off their "Christmas Preview Weekend" with non-stop holiday tunes. I wonder if it will stick around after the weekend is over?<P ID="signature">______________

It was funny, K-104.7 started at 3pm, Lite started at 3:40pm. Draw your own conclusions. Competition is fun!

For the record I work for K-104.7 part-time. I could have worked at Lite (in fact I did many years ago) but they wanted me to sign a non-compete. I couldn't see doing that for a part-time thing. Since I still have friends there I'd like to see both stations do well (but of course I'd like to see K-104.7 do better than Lite. Then I could tease my friends at Lite).

Judging at K's website, I have a feeling the music is here to stay. Why promote it so heavily and then change back on Monday? The whole website is revamped. Within minutes of starting up the Christmas music on Lite, their website was tinkered with as well to include a Christmas scene around the Lite logo.

We'll see.

WLYT-102.9 is A Christmas Channel (Clear Channel) Property. CC is the company that has been most agressive about programming all-Christmas formats.

Thus, when they realized they were "beaten to the punch" in starting an all-Christmas programming, they responded within forty minutes. It's possible---but I don't know and we may never know---that WLYT may have had to move up the start date of their all-Christmas format because K-104.7 did it first.
 
It ain't Christmas gifts that make satellite radio sales go up.
