Christmas Music flips

Any word or hint who is going to be first? Any chance the holiday music will be a bridge to a new format change?

It's pretty much guaranteed that B98.5 and Fish will flip to Christmas at some point, and probably within minutes of each other, as they do every year. No real format change there although B98.5 may freshen their format again, as they often do after Christmas.

The WiLDcard is whether or not 105.7 will flip to Christmas. If they do--and I am thinking they will--it will be a prelude to a new format after the holidays. The new format will likely be alt/AAA or 70s/80s classic hits, the two big format holes in Atlanta. I'm guessing the latter.

The smart thing would be fore 105.7 to flip early. Maybe folks will give them a button in their cars for Christmas music early... and keep going there during the holidays.

Don't forget Adult Hits/ Jack FM. CC has really been rolling out the Jack format lately and to much success- just look at Charlotte in it's first few books as "The Lake".

A Jack station could be tweaked to be heavy-70s and light-90s, versus centering on the 80s like most Jack stations. But either would work for classic hits in this day and age. It would also be a great opportunity for CC to air AT40 The 70s and 80s, which CC does on many of their Jack stations.

I wonder how Cox's Chuck FM is doing in the northeast quadrant...

Aren't we missing the AC & soft AC formats also? Would they do well inside the current Atlanta radio environment?
How is soft AC doing nationwide under PPM? I would think they would be in the same boat as smooth jazz.

You might be right about there being a hole with AC or soft AC, but there's already a lot of competition in hot AC. Adult hits, AAA, or classic hits might be the safer bet. How much quality new product is there for soft AC? Today's charts seem like the reverse of 30 years ago, when CHR was dominated by AC. Now AC is dominated by CHR.

Bingo. Soft ACs tend to do well, ratings-wise, in older markets like Tampa and Miami, but they don't bill as well because the demos are way too old for most advertisers.

with WSB-FM's move closer to a Hot AC and their current position outperforming both Star and Q it is highly unlikely we will see s flip to ALL XMAS Music like has been the tradition for that station for years. Fish will own the 24/7 brand this season.

They do it every year and get a ratings boost in that time period every year...they may play a hotter mix than previous years but it will still be all-Christmas...Fish will continue to own the softer/older Christmas hits as well as the ContempChristian artists...now if Fish will do something about their repetitive playlist...TURN OR BURN, I say...

Christmas music Means Money they will do it

The question as to whether WSB-FM continues the tradition of going ALL Christmas will likely be answered Turkey Day eve. An earlier poster remembered the flip occurred in recent years just before Noon a few hours after the Fish. Based on the radio marketplace right now, the long term risks outweigh the short term 4 week's ratings gain. Not going to happen, stone cold lock as the sports jocks like to say.

Well, I gather from all the responses that no one has flipped yet, and not likely to do so until closer to Thanksgiving. And the only format revisions would be slight adjustments to play lists. Thanks, folks.

But I do miss the seasonal sounds. Glad we've got DISH; their music services should kick in pretty soon. Nu the middle of December we routinely have about a dozen channels of nothing but Christmas music.

And I've still got in a box a reel 59:45 program of Christmas music I produced for an Athens (GA) station for them to use back in 1966.

BTW, Merry Christmas, y'all!

Has ANY station gone to all Christmas? I have a gentleman in the balcony, Doctor, who would like to listen to it.

this year it seems as if stations aren't flipping as fast as in years past mabye this will be the year stations just mix it in here and there ?

There have been XMas music flips already but you may very well see fewer this year, Atlanta prime example. Unless 105.7/96.7 flip as a precursor to a new format, Fish will be the only 24-7 Xmas station this season.
