Christmas Music on The Big D - For How Long?

YES, WDRC FM is playing "holiday music" ( I wonder if BillO and the rest of the Fox "news" freaks will boycott WDRC FM for referring to
"holiday music" instead of Christmas music)? In Northern CT, you can also hear WMAS FM and their Christmas music.

You can hear us in more than Northern CT :)

I'm guessing that by switching to Christmas Muzak they can put what's left of their airstaff on temporary layoff. A cost cutting move.
They're still running plenty of spots. They must have slashed the rates.

What would the late Charlie Parker think?

It's a different, deeper mix of seasonal music than other stations play, I'll give them that. Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave) singing "O Come All Ye Faithful"? Allen Sherman's "12 Days of Christmas"? I don't think you'll be hearing those on WRCH.

I wonder if this spells the end of Big D, A to Z -- although that generally starts the day after Christmas.

The mix has been fantastic. A lot of deeper cuts that aren't exactly "American classics" but it's not "All I want for Christmas is You" either. Thanksgiving night I heard Gary Glitter's "Another Rock 'n Roll Christmas" into Al Green's "Feels like Christmas." I love it!!

So DRC-FM is trying to eat into the Christmas pie now. Wonder if this will hurt them. As WCBS-FM went Christmas one year to go up againist WLTW. Since then WCBS-FM hasn't gone All Christmas.

It's bad enough that WRCH-FM does this every year. If WDRC-FM is indeed doing this until December 26th, they'll have one less listener. My brother said they weren't even doing Ron Sedalie's Saturday night show tonight either.

True, but thus year WCBS-FM's sister station in Philly WOGL flipped to go against B-101. (B-101 is Philly's version of Lite 100.5 albeit, they're locally owned, not corporate owned).

I don't know anything, but who's to say DRC-FM will even come back on December 26th? Who's to say they won't become a simulcast of 1360? Just speculation here.

Strange, because Ron was on with his usual voicetracked Sunday morning show today, playing Christmas songs, of course.

Heard this afternoon: Porky Pig's "Blue Christmas" into Bobby Darin's "Christmas Auld Lang Syne." This is the sort of weirdness I'm used to hearing on Rob Ray's Christmas Eve show every hear. But that's only five hours; a full month of this might be a bit much!

They're not playing Charlie Tuna's 70s music show right now either. Something is definitely up if Christmas still plays after Jerry Kristapher tomorrow.

From Ron Sedaille on Facebook:

Rockin' Ron Sedaille: Thank you for the kind words, everyone! Don't worry, New Year's Eve is just around the corner. Until then, enjoy the Christmas tunes. The Big D Music Department has been working around the clock to put together the Biggest Holiday Hit Music for the season - Enjoy!

:(

And Christmas music pre-empted Tom Kent last Thursday and Friday nights. You'd think that a company that's so obsessed with saving money would run all the syndicated shows it's paying for, wouldn't you?

Isn't TK a barter program?

But doesn't WOGL always goes Christmas every year as does sister station WODS in Boston?

Judging from the last ratings period I saw, I don't think that WDRC-FM fans have to worry about flipping after the Christmas flip, as their ratings are still quite strong. WDRC AM on the other hand, remains a problem, so I couldn't see why WDRC FM would simulacst a ratings loser such as WDRC AM (OOPS,I'm sorry, I get into trouble when I diss WDRC AM.)
