Christmas Music: Who will be the first?

I'm sure everyone will agree that Sunny will be the first. Will they begin earlier? I check the station today and have heard no X-mas music...so far.

Would be cool to see other stations start X-mas music but with a twist. In other words, not the same ol same ol nat king cole bing crosby and the THOUSANDS of boring X-mas remakes.

It might be a better discussion to guess the date when Sunny will begin the Christmas fest, since it is nearly a safe assumption that they'll be first. (Too early for my liking, always.)

For several years, until last year, the Sunny Christmas soiree began at 5 p.m., the Friday of the second-full week of November (usually on or around Nov. 15th.) Last year, I figured it would begin, then, and was dead-set ready to kick my radio to a different station, but the Christmas love-fest didn't begin until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

With Thanksgiving falling later, this year, my guess is that the Christmas music will not wait until the 26th to start. (The 24/7 Christmas is too kind to KODA). I figure Sunny's Christmas tribute will begin the weekend of the 21st. I'll say Marc's afternoon show, Nov. 21st at 5 p.m.

I'd love to see a much wider variety of Christmas music on all of the stations, if I'm to be subjected to that much of it. If I recall, Marc mentioned in an article with the Chronicle, last year, that they had around 800 songs in their 2007 Christmas playlist. If that's the case, that'd be more than the 580 or so songs in the station's normal playlist, now. Maybe Christmas will bring more "variety" to Sunny. It's been sad, lately, for sure.

I think KODA will jump the gun first. I think the day before Thanksgiving will signal The start of the holiday season-and the constant playing of Christmas Music 24/7. The Holiday season doesn't start until Santa says so.

don't know about first, but sunny will play the most if the long established pattern pattern continues this year. doubt we'll see a twist with any station, though. would be nice to see sunny do cheech & chongs christmas. a little bit more for santa clause, and little bit more for santa clause....

A station in Chicago started playing christmas music oct 1st wow that sucks

I wish they would only play Christmas music on Christmas Eve and Christmas day like what KVET and KASE do commercial free... instead of playing the same 20 songs over and over again.

My money is on Sunny. (pun intended) KSBJ will probably play the same old stuff they've used for years. They lost their good program director several months ago. And things have gone downhill on the air ever since. Their morning show has really hit the skids.

I heard KSBJ announce that they were starting on Thanksgiving Eve - I think - so it might be a tie.

Didn't hear about their PD, and I haven't noticed a difference in the morning show at all.

I think it would be funny if Sunny didn't play any Christmas this year, just to kill the speculation for next year.

Saw a commercial this morning for KSBJ saying they are playing Christmas music now. I checked on the way to work and didnt hear any.

KSBJ's website states Thanksgiving Eve. Keep in mind the topic of this thread: Topic: Christmas Music: Who will be the first?

I am going to put this to rest right now. I am the 1st to play a Christmas song. At 5:19:30 this morning (11/20), I played Elvis Presley's "Santa Claus' Back In Town." What a great blues Christmas song. Incidentally, I mentioned this post about Radio-Info on the air preceding the song.

Bill Bennett, the national talk show host on the air during this time period, loves old rock 'n roll. For the past two years, I have been playing one song from that era of rock 'n roll. Therefore today, I was doing what I usually do. Merry Christmas!

Sunny IS going to flip to Christmas music and, unfortunately --- in my view --- very soon. They've been teasing about the flip for 2 weeks now.

Personally, while I've never been crazy about the 24/7 Christmas music from mid-November onward, I'm especially dreading it this year. As someone who lost so much in Hurricane Ike, Christmas is the last thing I want to think about right now. $100,000 worth of damage from Ike + Christmas = MISERY. Christmas music in 2008 for me = raw sewage. I'll be popping "Stranglehold" in the CD player very soon.
