Christmas music...

Who's gone all Christmas in Louisiana?

So far, I'm aware only of 98.7 KKST/Alexandria as full-time Christmas, with 102.1 KQIS/Lafayette going at midnight on the day after Thanksgiving. Has Clear Channel shifted 96.1 KRVE/Baton Rouge or 96.5/KVKI Shreveport yet? I know that as of this past weekend, CC-owned 104.5 KKMY/Beaumont was still AC.

And speaking of CC, is it a corporate mandate that all of their ACs shift to Christmas, or is it just something that's encouraged, with the final decision left up to local management? (I know... Ha! Clear Channel leaving decisions to local management.) ;)

Call on that is KBZZ 96.7 Morgan City and it flipped I think Monday or so... Usually they wait until thanksgiving to flip it but went early for some reason.

.... and now the time has also come for my two favorite Christmas "songs" to hopefully play :)...

"Santa Claus and his ole lady" - a cheech and chong classic that aired a lot on WCKW

and who could forget "Mistress for Christmas" off of ac/dc's razor edge album...

I've never considered the "All Christmas" format to be legitimate. Desperate station programmers and owners like to resort to it.

Apparently you've never seen the numbers that Christmas music brings in. With that said, KZRZ 98.3 in Monroe, has switched.

Well, in the River's case in Baton Rouge, they certainly don't have lousy numbers. For some reason, the Xmas music will shoot their ratings through the roof.

They actually had a better book with no x-mas music. Would've been a tough decision for me. I might have stayed with the ac, hoping to maintain... or, go with x-mas and hope for an increase. Programming is always a gamble.

As for the poor station manager who has to listen to this every day for the next 30 days or so, it's not the only thing he wishes to "shoot".

Perhaps I'm wrong, as I've been out of the radio business for a long time. But I just can't help thinking that if the format I had been running was successful to begin with, why would I want to completely change it for a month out of the year? I see nothing wrong with the traditional method of sprinkling in Christmas music here and there, as long as it fits the format.

96.5 KVKI went all-Christmas on Thanksgiving Day. I'm not sure when, but 92.1 KSYR is doing all-Christmas as well. Seems stupid to me that KSYR would jump on it and leave Shreveport completely without any AC music right now....other than whatever KRMD is trying to do by mixing Country and AC together...

With any luck, Sunny 92.1 will never come back in January.

I think that the preponderance of stations going All Christmas sky-rocketed after September 11th, 2001 and it truly did resonate with the majority of listeners during that first post 9/11 Christmas season. I think public sentiment has cooled and the options have increased for those wanting All Christmas/All The Time. Just my 2 cents! I agree with you NewsType, sprinkle the Christmas tunes in that fit the particular format.
