Christmas Music

Interesting considering my calendar says tomorrow is September 30.
I know, Sorry I was doing notes for Wednesday and had a senior moment! I try to stay a day ahead.
Now that Peach/Lite is no longer around, B98.5 is under no pressure to do it until the day after Thanksgiving. The Fish will probably go all-Christmas, possibly slightly before Thanksgiving, but B98.5 doesn't really consider The Fish enough of a threat to make B98.5 start early.
I am going to go way out on a limb and say 95.5 The Bey-at flips the week before Thanksgiving.
To start playing Christmas music in October is.....well.....Somehow, playing Christmas music before Halloween is.....just.....wrong.....
November is more acceptable. Or at least when the stores have finally gotten rid of the Halloween stock........
As for Christian stations....well, it wouldn't surprise me if they already gotten started because Halloween (for whatever reason) usually isn't the thing on most Christian stations. But on an average AC, that's a big order unless you really want to alienate a lot of people who just barely made the final payments on Christmas last year (this year's been tough on everybody.)
I get nervous looking at the brand new 16 month calender in the kitchen. My wife already has designs on this year's Christmas.....I'm just not quite looking forward to the extra labor, major expenses and frustrating shopping trips....at least until mid-November. But please...not just YET......Continuous aural reminders of the major American household paradigm shift to come wafting from the radio is something a lot of people really don't need in October. Let's finish the Halloween candy first.....
But I know with the ratings successes of Holiday formats and some markets now getting online to PPM, the temptation to start with the holiday music ASAP is absolutely IRRESISTIBLE for some stations. But please, have mercy......

Rock 100.5 will make the flip November 15th to TRG with XTalk in the Morning and XMAS music all day. January 1 they will flip to to a 680 the FAN Simulcast with the Rude show blown out in favor of TRG. Erin will start dating Rhubarb Fan and living in his mom's basement and everyone will be happy as she fulfills his living shrine. Axel the cockroach of radio and means that in a nice way because Ido like Axel will survive. Hosting a 7 - 12 show called Rock and Jocks that will be 50% music 50% sports call-in. He will also become a roving stadium reporter during Braves home games to bring some frivolity to what can sometime become a stale broadcast. This is of course all in anticipation of the Braves coming on board.
If this does not happen eventually Rock 100.5 will flip anyway and I will say I told you so even if it is 3 years later.
