Christmas Music?

(I know it's quite early to be talking about Christmas, but here goes anyway...)

Anyone think WYJB or WROW will be doing Christmas this year instead of WKLI? Before WKLI, I believe WZMR was doing the Christmas music back when they were smooth jazz... and WTRY will most likely be doing Christmas again, like the past few years too. =)

I wonder if Regent/Townsquare will join in on the Christmas bandwagon too... with what, though? WBZZ?

It's a given that one of themwill start it... way too soon as well. Every year, when WTRY starts it pumpin', my wife writes them complaining it's too early. They usually respond by saying that it's due to public demand! (probably more like "retail" demand).

It's an on-going national controversy. Some research indicates that All-Christmas helps stations during the final phase of the Fall book and the "13th month" trend but it hurts them during first quarter. Nevertheless, the rule of thumb is that first in wins with All-Christmas even if it does create a polarizing effect. It wouldn't be a surprise if Magic and WTRY were the All-Christmas stations again this year with one of them launching before Thanksgiving. After all, some stores put up their holiday
displays just after Labor Day!

And it would be interesting to see how an AM station would fare with 24/7 holiday hits, should 590 choose to go that route...

Whether or not the comparison is the same........ it's already done each year.

Dial Global's (standards) format begins Christmas 24/7 right after Thanksgiving. It's been heard locally each year on 1190 & 1230. And THIS year, it'll also be heard on 1160 WABY. THAT will actually be intertesting since 1160 splits from the service each afternoon and most of the day on weekends. So, do they have ALL Christmas for half of each day, then maybe continue with their own holiday format during live hours, keeping with the continuity of Dial Global? Or do they put their local hosts on vacation, and run Global's service 24/7? Personally, I think they have NO continuity whatsoever (anyway) so they'll think nothing of running regular programming outside of the Dial Global all-Christmas hours.

Dial Global will be playing 4 songs an hour starting after Thanksgiving, then going all Christmas Dec 13th

Has there been an official announcement? That would be a new strategy for them to do that, which I personally would prefer.
